Two children were killed and nine people were injured after a stolen police cruiser crashed into two parked cars in Dayton, Ohio, Monday night. The cars had been parked outside the Dayton Public Library when they were struck around 7:22 p.m., Dayton Police Lt. Eric Henderson said.According to Henderson, Dayton police originally responded to a call for a stabbing shortly after 7 p.m. The suspect in that incident had fled, he said.Police in nearby Riverside then received a 911 call about a car that had driven into a tree and went to check on the accident. When the Riverside officer exited his police cruiser, the suspect from the stabbing call -- who had abandoned the car driven into the tree -- stole the officer's car and fled the scene at a high speed, Henderson said. The suspect crashed the police cruiser into two vehicles that were carrying 11 people between them, including seven children. All 11 occupants were taken to local hospitals and at least three of them were in life-threatening condition when they were transported, Henderson said. Two of the children later died, he said. Two Riverside officers sustained minor injuries when the suspect struck their vehicle. 1191

UPDATE (2 PM EASTERN, WASHINGTON, D.C.): President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence spoke to the media following the leaders of the Democratic Party speaking to the media Friday. The speeches were made after they all met regarding the current government shutdown.President Trump said the meeting was positive, and progress was made. He will have a group focused on the shutdown talks over the weekend.Trump went on to talk about issues at the U.S.-Mexico border, talking about someone who was shot and killed at the border and said "we don't want that happening." He said the ports of entry have great security but there is fencing and walls that stop because proper border security is still needed.People illegally entering the country go to the weakest and most unprotected parts of the border, the President explained.Children are hurt more than anyone else because of open borders, Trump said. They are the victims of people bringing them through unsafe areas, and are susceptible to attacks by coyotes. There is a lot of open space, he said he told Pelosi, Schumer and the other leaders he met with Friday.EARLIER STORY:A meeting Friday between President Donald Trump and newly powerful Democrats ended in continued stalemate as a partial government shutdown wears on. 1294
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Census Day arrived Wednesday with a nation almost paralyzed by the spread of the novel coronavirus. April 1, 2020 is the date used to reference where a person lives for the once-a-decade count. It’s not a deadline. When you respond, you'll tell the U.S. Census Bureau where you live as of April 1 and include everyone who usually lives and sleeps in your home. You can respond before or after that date, but you're encouraged to respond as soon as you can. 486
Two Democratic congresswomen on Tuesday introduced a bill that would block federal funding for the 2026 men's World Cup until the US Women's National Team earns "fair and equitable wages compared to the US men's team."The legislation, co-sponsored by Reps. Doris Matsui of California and Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, comes amid the team's longstanding battle for equal pay.Months before the tournament, members of the Women's National team filed a lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation, claiming they deserve to be paid what the American men are paid for their international performances. In one hypothetical case cited in the lawsuit, if the women's and men's teams both won 20 straight games in a season, the women would make 38% what the men do.Matsui and DeLauro say the federal government shouldn't make any financial contribution for the 2026 tournament, which will be spread through venues across the US, Canada and Mexico, until the playing field is level for female athletes."Until the USSF provides real reforms ensuring equitable pay for our male and female athletes, the U.S. government has no business contributing potentially billions of dollars in support for the 2026 World Cup," Matsui said in a statement.DeLauro said federal funding for the men's tournament in 2026 would be "encouraging the pay gap to continue.""Congress needs to ensure women in the same job are getting the same pay," DeLauro said in a statement. Two weeks ago, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin introduced a Senate version of the bill, which would similarly block federal funding until US Soccer agrees to "provide equitable pay."Still, it's unclear just how much money would actually be withheld if the bills succeed in Congress. 1728
