The US Secret Service said it is reviewing an incident in which an agent blocked a CBS News reporter on Tuesday from questioning Jared Kushner, the President's son-in-law and a senior White House advisor, about the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. In video posted to Twitter by the journalist, Errol Barnett, a US Secret Service agent physically prevented him from questioning Kushner. When Barnett explained that he was a member of the press, the agent replied, "I don't give a damn who you are. There's a time and a place."In a statement provided to CNN, a spokesperson for the US Secret Service said the agency was "aware of the video" posted by Barnett. 682

The use of telehealth has become a common practice during the pandemic. Now, some doctors hope it continues to be an important tool in the healthcare industry."There are a number of bills have been proposed," said Dr. Tesh Monteith, a neurologist and fellow with the American Academy of Neurology.Dr. Monteith says Congress is considering several bills to keep telehealth, which allows patients to video conference with a doctor instead of going in for a physical appointment, around for the long run. When the pandemic hit, rules regarding telehealth changed, allowing for doctors to be financially reimbursed for the virtual appointments."It's allowed patients to access care. They're patients that would normally have to take days off, or to keep providers, multiple providers, and if they can do that, they may have childcare issues and not be able to get to a clinic," said Dr. Monteith. The bills would allow for everything from permanent reimbursement for physicians to allowing doctors to virtually see patients across state lines."Some of these bills are proposing that there are not limitations within states. For example, there are issues of licensing. A doctor licensed in New York should they be able to see a patient with a specialized disorder in Minnesota or does that patient have to come in Minnesota," explained Dr. Monteith. While telemedicine has been an important part of making sure people received medical care and diagnoses during the pandemic, doctors agree that the virtual visits in no way can replace seeing your physician in person."Because I know my patients well, I’m a pediatrician, I can do so much over telehealth with the kids I know. When they're sick I can look at them. I can watch them breathe. I can ask them to jump up and down and have the parents press on their tummy, but I can’t look in their ears. I can’t listen to their heart, and if it’s a family that I don’t know, there is concern that I might miss something," said Dr. Tanya Altmann, a pediatrician in California.Dr. Altmann says telehealth can also be a very valuable tool.As for reimbursement for physicians, Dr. Altmann says, "anyway that a physician or healthcare provider reaches out to a family to help with anything medical, it should be compensated."Dr. Altmann says pediatricians can sometimes spend hours on the phone with patients at night, work they don't get paid for. Getting reimbursed for telehealth visits with patients would be a plus."Patients need to empower themselves to learn about telemedicine, to learn what questions to ask a doctor. Have an advocate or family member there to even help with the physical examination," suggested Dr. Monteith.Dr. Monteith says medical professionals estimate there have been more than one billion telemedicine appointments since the pandemic began. She hopes Congress passes the telehealth-related bills to further expand medical access to people across the country. 2932

The US believes that Ibrahim al-Asiri, a master al Qaeda bombmaker, is dead. The Saudi Arabian native was the mastermind behind the "underwear bomb" attempt to detonate a flight above the skies of Detroit on Christmas Day in 2009.A senior US official expressed "confidence that he was killed."Two US officials told CNN al-Asiri was killed by a CIA drone last year. The CIA is not commenting on his fate.CNN reported last week that al-Asiri may have been killed in Yemen last year, according to a UN team that tracks terrorist groups.Counterterrorism analysts say there should be significant skepticism over al-Asiri's possible demise for one major reason: His group, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has not released any statement acknowledging his death, nor a eulogy celebrating his martyrdom.Al-Asiri is widely credited with perfecting miniaturized bombs with little or no metal content that could make it past some airport security screening. That ability made him a direct threat to the US, and some of his plots had come close to reaching their targets in the US.In addition to the "underwear bomb" attempt, al-Asiri was behind the so-called "printer bomb" plot. That plan saw him send explosive devices inside printers to the US. The two packages were being shipped from Yemen through Dubai and the UK in October 2010.Both were addressed to synagogues in Chicago.Al-Asiri appeared to have taken on a more public-facing role within al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in recent years, including purportedly recording a speech the group released in 2016.The most recent public statement attributed to him was a written speech released by the group on September 12, 2017, to coincide with the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The speech promised an ongoing war against the United States.CNN cannot independently verify he authored these statements.Few expect al-Asiri's expertise to die with him. Officials believe he trained a number of apprentices. And since 2014, US officials have been concerned that bomb-making expertise built up by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has migrated to other groups, including al Qaeda operatives in Syria.Meanwhile, ISIS is among the terrorist groups that have worked to develop laptop bombs, prompting large electronics to be temporarily banned in the cabin on certain flights to the United States and the UK from the Middle East last year. 2414

The so-called cone of uncertainty for Tropical Storm Jose now includes North Carolina's Outer Banks, Maryland and Delaware, after the National Hurricane Center on Thursday shifted its potential path west. The cone shows the probable track of the center of a storm over a five-day period. With maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, Jose is a tropical storm after being a hurricane through the week. The storm is expected to strengthen and become a hurricane again by this weekend, the center said. At one point last weekend, Jose was a Category 4 hurricane.Jose, which recently completed an odd clockwise loop, is forecast to move closer to the United States before turning north. The vast majority of computer models still keep the storm out to sea, but a few show it making a potential landfall along the East Coast, CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller said."Jose could produce other direct impacts next week along portions of the east coast of the United States from North Carolina northward to New England, but it is too soon to determine what those impacts might be or where they could occur," the hurricane center said.Track the storm hereThe inclusion of the Outer Banks in Thursday's advisories marked the first time the United States mainland has been in the forecast cone tracking Jose.As of 11 pm on Thursday, Jose was in the southwest Atlantic Ocean, about 375 miles northeast of the southeastern Bahamas, and was moving west-northwest at 8 mph.No matter its path, Tropical Storm Jose is expected to bring rough surf and rip current conditions in the next few days. The swells generated by Jose are affecting Bermuda, the Bahamas, the northern coasts of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico and the US Southeast coast. Those effects will spread north along the mid-Atlantic coast in the next few days.Jose is the sixth named hurricane of the Atlantic basin season, which lasts through November. The peak of hurricane season is generally from mid-August to mid-October. Two major hurricanes, Harvey and Irma, have hit the United States, with Irma also demolishing islands in the Caribbean. 2089
