SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A water main break Monday forced San Diego firefighters to evacuate Point Loma neighbors due to a potential hillside collapse.The break happened about 2:30 p.m. on Larga Circle near Leland St. The residential area is just west of the Vons shopping center on Midway Drive.According to SDFD, 10 homes were evacuated due to the break. The broken water main is on a slope between homes at the top and bottom of the slope. At least one home had flooding to the garage.City engineers are being called to the scene. 545

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A stranger helped a woman through a flight from San Diego to Nashville in a random act of kindness caught on camera. Megan Schofield was on the Southwest plane and told 10News what she noticed. The flight had just started to take off when Schofield saw an elderly woman tightly clutching a young man’s arm. “Upon take-off, she mentioned she hadn't flown in 15 years and she was scared, and she said to the gentleman “Take my hand”, and he grabbed her hand,” Schofield said. Schofield discovered the woman was 96 years old and flying to celebrate her birthday with family across the country. “Seeing that, I told the gentleman I would want somebody to treat my grandmother the way you treated her.” Schofield posted the moment on Facebook, where it went viral. “Sometimes we're just so caught up in the hustle and bustle that we don't always see who needs help.” The man in the photo, identified only as Ben, emailed Schofield, saying he was happy such a simple moment could be so important to so many people. Schofield was inspired to pay it forward. “Yesterday on my flight home, a lady about the age of my mom… I could tell she was a little bit worried. She said “I don't fly, I drive” so I walked her to her gate and she gave me a big hug.” The elderly woman who received help from the young man is named Virginia, but we don’t know her exact identity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego woman is among those killed in the Conception boat fire off Santa Cruz Island, her coworkers in Coronado told 10News Tuesday. A manager at Nicky Rottens restaurant at 100 Orange Ave. identified Nicole Quitasol as one of the victims of the deadly fire. Quitasol was on the dive trip with four relatives, her coworkers posted on Facebook. "Nicole has worked with our Nicky Rottens Coronado family for years, and she will be remembered as an adventurous & loving soul," wrote Bryn Butolph, who described Quitasol as smart and loving."She will be greatly missed," Butolph added. He told 10News Quitasol was devoted to her dog, Peanut Butter.The family of five was among 34 people presumed dead in the blaze. All were sleeping below deck when the fire started early Monday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Syrian refugee who took his Uber passenger across the U.S.-Mexico border into Tijuana was detained last week by Customs and Border Protection officers.Hussam Abdul Noor immigrated to San Diego one year ago and was in the process of applying for a green card to stay in the United States, according to his former coworker Wally Ghamraoui.Noor supported his wife and two children by working at a gas station in El Cajon. He had refugee employment authorization document. Two weeks ago, Noor began working as an Uber driver, Uber confirmed. Noor wanted the job because the pay was better, said Ghamraoui.RELATED: ICE releases UC San Diego student detained at border Last Wednesday, Noor took an Uber passenger across the border into Mexico. An Uber spokesperson said the passenger must have requested the trip because it is not possible to order a ride across the U.S.-Mexico border through the Uber app.Noor's wife woke up at 3 a.m. and noticed he wasn't home. "He sent her a What'sApp message that don't be afraid, I got held up at the border and I should be back home soon," family friend Nibras Maleh translated.When Noor tried to drive back into the U.S., he was detained at the border by customs officers. "I'm concerned," Ghamraoui said, tearing up, "I hope they don't deport him, he need to fix, to learn something from his mistake."Attorney Lilia Velasquez works in immigration law and said anyone with Noor’s immigration status is not allowed to leave the United States during the legal process.
