A golfer in Colorado is recovering after being gored by an elk over the weekend, splitting one of his kidneys.Zak Bornhoft was at Evergreen Golf Course about an hour west of Denver on Saturday evening. He and his friends saw dozens of elk near the course and thought they would be safe if they kept their distance, according to reports.He tells local media the large elk charged at him while he sat in a golf cart near the 17th hole. The person driving the cart brought him to the clubhouse to get help.The Elk’s antler sliced his left kidney in two. Bornhoft was rushed to the hospital, and treated in the ICU. He is reportedly making a good recovery.Elk are allowed to roam freely in the area of the course, and wildlife officials say attacks on golfers are rare. 773

A Dutch woman is believed to be the first person in the world to die after contracting COVID-19 for a second time, according to multiple reports.Scientists report the 89-year-old woman suffered from a type of bone marrow cancer. She was admitted to the hospital earlier this year with severe cough and fever, and tested positive for the coronavirus. She left the hospital about a week later still feeling fatigue but other symptoms had gone.Two months later, she developed a fever, coughing and breathing difficulties, according to the Independent in the UK, while receiving chemotherapy treatment.The woman tested positive again for COVID-19 and doctors say she had no antibodies in her blood. She died two weeks later, according to CNN.Researchers believe the second infection was different and not prolonged symptoms of the first infection. They stated in their report the genetic makeup of the two virus samples from her infections are different. 958

A man convicted of sexually assaulting a sleeping woman on an overnight flight from Las Vegas to Detroit was sentenced on Thursday to nine years in prison, according to federal prosecutors.Prabhu Ramamoorthy, 35, was convicted in August of sexual abuse onboard an aircraft. Jurors deliberated for less than four hours before returning the guilty verdict.Authorities say that during an Spirit Airlines flight in January, Ramamoorthy put his hand down the pants of the woman sitting next to him and molested her while she slept."The sexual assault woke her up, she found her pants unbuttoned and unzipped, and she sought help from the flight attendants," according to a statement from the US Attorney's Office.Ramamoorthy was taken into custody when the flight landed.His attorneys did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment on the sentencing."The sentence announced today is proof that the safety and security of all aircraft passengers is a priority for the FBI, our local and federal law enforcement partners, and airline personnel," Timothy R. Slater, the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Detroit Division said in a statement. "If you, or someone you know, is the victim of a crime during air travel, immediately notify a flight crew member, airport security police, and the FBI."The government said Ramamoorthy is in the United States on a work visa and that he will be deported after he serves his sentence. A federal judge has dismissed several charges against Dr. Jumana Nagarwala in the historic female genital mutilation case, ruling that the federal law against female genital mutilation is unconstitutional.U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman ruled that Congress did not have the power to enact a federal law that banned female genital mutilation in the United States.Instead, Friedman made the argument that the law was too broad and it violated Congress' powers, as the law does not stand up to scrutiny under either the Necessary and Proper Clause or the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution.He also found that laws penalizing Female Genital Mutilation should be handled at the state level, similar to laws regarding Criminal Sexual Conduct, battery or child abuse.  Shannon Smith is the Defense Attorney for Dr. Nagarwala.  She says the ruling is "absolutely a huge victory. When you actually studied the law they enacted, there was no constitutional basis for them to enact the law. It’s really an issue that should be left to the states."Smith also claims the doctors did not perform Female Genital Mutilation, saying instead they performed a mild form of female circumcision."What Dr. Nagarwala was doing, if we had gone to trial, would have been vindicated that she was not mutilating little girls. While we’re happy with the victory and we’ll certainly take it, there’s a part of me that’s a little disappointed that the public isn’t going to see the evidence brought out at a trial to see that she was never guilty of it in the first place," Smith said.The ruling comes after Friedman also dismissed a "conspiracy to transport minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity" charge in January. That was the only count that could have lead to life in prison for both Nagarwala and Dr. Fakhruddin Attar.Friedman's ruling leaves two counts in place in the case.
