CLEVELAND, Ohio - We’re a little over a month away from Thanksgiving and health officials are more concerned than ever thinking about spiking coronavirus cases as families may be planning to gather for the holiday.“We had seen a decrease in cases from our peak, of course, which was in July and we were down into the 40s per day of receiving cases until the mid-last week. Then it started to go up from there," said Romona Brazile, Interim Co-Director of Prevention and Wellness Services at Cuyahoga County Board of Health. "Of course, we want to see our families, but limiting the number of people, still trying to practice social distancing even if it is in your own home, still wearing a mask."Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease agrees. His own family is now sacrificing not seeing each other as his children worry about his age and possible exposure to the virus.“Don't assume that because you're in your own home with your own family that you're not going to spread infection,” he said.Even traveling to see our families is risky. Dr. Fauci said travel on planes and public transportation could increase exposure to the virus.Instead, the CDC is offering up some suggestions on ways you can still have a holiday celebration with friends and family while being safe.The agency said celebrating virtually is your best bet, but if you do meet up in person make sure you stay outside as much as possible and avoid crowds. The CDC also said gatherings with more preventive measures in place pose less risk compared to gatherings with fewer or no preventive measures at all.After any holiday celebrations, you should stay at home as much as possible, avoid crowds and those considered at risk. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man's peaceful visit to Coronado's Dog Beach turned into one of major concern when he saw boat debris lining the shore.Todd Tremelling feared the dogs and marine life would eat the materials. Tremelling was at Dog Beach over the weekend when he saw a boat stuck along the fence that separates the public part of the beach from Naval Air Station North Island.The boat is one of about a dozen abandoned boats that have washed ashore due to storms. On Saturday, he saw a crew from the base removing the boat with a backhoe."They were using the bucket to beat it into a million pieces, or probably 10 million," said Tremelling, who regularly takes his two dogs to the beach. When he returned on Sunday, he saw the shoreline was lined with boat debris, including wood paneling, fiber glass, and foam that lined the hull. Tremelling filled a bucket with the debris before an animal could eat it. "They need to do a better job," said Tremelling, of the removal. Sandy Duchac, a spokeswoman for Naval Air Station North Island, said crews follow strict procedures when removing the boats. "At the end of the day we do everything we can to remove the debris from the boats that people allow to come ashore," she said. "There's very little we can do about teh debris that ends up on the Coronado side."Duchac said the Navy has removed about a dozen boats that washed ashore after storms in the last year. It's almost impossible to identify the owners because the boats are often abandoned and the ownership information has been removed.It costs taxpayers about ,000 to remove each boat.  1646

Consumers are going to have to wait a little longer to shop the Toys "R" Us liquidation sales.The company had said it expected the sales to start Thursday. But there's been a delay, a company spokesperson told CNNMoney Thursday morning. It now expects sales to likely start Friday.The iconic toy giant announced last week that it will shut or sell all of its 735 US stores.Shoppers looking to snag a bargain should act fast when the sales start."It will be quick," said Chuck Tatelbaum, a director with Tripp Scott, a Florida law firm, on how quickly the shelves will empty. "No more than 60 days, closer to 30 days."The more popular and favorite toys tend to move the fastest, and inventory is likely already slim."The [stores] haven't gotten a lot of new inventory in the last month or two, so a lot of the popular things have probably already sold out," said Tatelbaum.Consumers with Toys "R" Us gift cards and Endless Earnings e-gift cards should also hurry. The retailer will honor these forms of payment until April 20. Stores will no longer accept coupons or other rewards.Stores will accept returns on products purchased before the liquidation for the next 30 days. All purchases made after liquidation sales begin are final, which means they cannot be returned or exchanged.Consumers planning on going to the store for one last walk up and down the aisles to reminisce could face a different reality."People will go for one last time, but I am not sure it will translate into buying," said Tatelbaum. Court of Claims Judge Christopher Murray has issued a preliminary injunction that stops the ban on open carry guns at polls in Michigan.The ban directive was issued by the Michigan secretary of state to prevent voter intimidation.An attorney for the state argued before the judge this afternoon that the ban was issued because of open carry protests inside and outside of the state capitol over the governor's COVID-19 lockdown orders and the criminal case against 14 men in an alleged plan to kidnap Gov. CLEVELAND — A 75-year-old USA Triathlon participant pulled from the water by a U.S. Coast Guard boat patrolling Lake Erie on Saturday morning has died, authorities have confirmed.The unresponsive man was spotted in the water by the Coast Guard near the Edgewater Marina in Cleveland around 8 a.m. Crews retrieved the man and performed CPR on him. The victim was then transported to a nearby hospital but later died, authorities said.The man was identified as Jim Hix, of Claremore, Oklahoma. Hix died while competing in the swimming portion of the Olympic-distance race, officials said.“Our sport lost a member of its beloved community and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Jim’s wife, Ann, his family and friends,” said USA Triathlon CEO Rocky Harris. “As one of the nation’s top multisport athletes in his age group, Jim and USA Triathlon shared a close relationship and his passing is particularly difficult.”According to USA Triathlon officials, Hix was the 2017 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Champion in his age group.  1084
