(KGTV) -- An elderly man was struck by a car and killed as he crossed an El Cajon street Wednesday night.At around 11:30 p.m., El Cajon police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Jamacha and Main Street in response to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.Police said a pickup truck was traveling northbound on Jamacha when it hit the 80 year-old-man. Officers say the victim's leg was amputated, and he was not breathing when they arrived at the scene.The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.According to police, the driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the incident, police said. 746

When the intruder refused to stop, the driver tried to physically block him from getting into the passenger area, Uelen said.Seeing the two men fighting, a grandmother of one of the students hurried aboard to try to help the driver. As the struggle between the three escalated, the assailant pulled a knife, Uelen said.At that point, a second bystander entered the bus and intervened.After a scuffle, he was able to pry the weapon away from Barker and pull him off the bus.Meanwhile, an older student ushered the other children to the back of the vehicle, called out for help to some parents who were still nearby and helped the young students get out of the bus through a back door and rear windows.Arriving deputies arrested Barker, a Campo resident, without further incident. EL CAJON (KGTV) - Amid the new COVID-19 restrictions, some local churches are expected to begin holding services outdoors.At Shadow Mountain Church in El Cajon, the sounds of the gospel have been a bit more crisp."Sound is incredible. No echoes, feels intimate ... like church," said Pastor David Jeremiah.Jeremiah says last month, when it became clear COVID-19 capacity restrictions would be too limiting indoors, they decided to move their services outside."Turned out to be a perfect amphitheater," said Jeremiah.A stage has been set up in one of their parking lots. The seating is sectioned off by families, each grouping set 6 feet apart. Services have been moved to the evening to escape the heat. Masks and bottled water are handed out to those who need them. Any singing is mostly limited to musicians on stage to minimize the coronavirus risk."It's our way of doing church. It's the only thing we can do so that's what we do," said Jeremiah.It's also going to be what other churches will do after recent coronavirus restrictions banned indoor church services. At the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Mira Mesa, an email was sent out announcing weekend outdoor masses.In Poway, officials approved a plan to share park space with places of worship and fitness centers. The city of El Cajon is also weighing a similar plan. (KGTV) -- A driver escaped serious injury after jumping from his truck after the brakes went out and just before the vehicle crashed into a Petco store in El Cajon.At around 10 p.m. Thursday, a man was driving his pickup truck near the 500 block of N 2nd Street when he noticed his brakes would not work.He managed to pull into a strip mall parking lot, opened his door, and then bailed from the truck.The truck continued to move and eventually slammed into the front doors of a Petco store.The driver was not injured, but his truck sustained heavy damage. The collision damaged the front door and broke several windows.No other injuries were reported.A building inspector was summoned to the scene to examine the pet store. 749
