DIVIDE COUNTY, N.D. – A tight-knit community in North Dakota is proving that neighbors can still take care of one another.Tabitha Unhjem told The Washington Post that her father, Lane, was driving his combine harvester across his field of durum wheat, when the machine caught fire and the 57-year-old man went into cardiac arrest while trying to put it out.Lane was airlifted to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition, CBS News reports.Meanwhile, fellow farmers in Divide County soon heard what happened to Lane and halted their own harvesting, so they could help.The Post reports that nearly 60 neighbors showed up with their machinery on Sept. 12 to finish Lane’s harvest for him.By dividing and conquering, the neighbors harvested about 1,000 acres of wheat and canola in the span of nearly eight hours, The Post reports.One of the neighbors, Brad Sparks, told The Post that it would have taken Lane about two weeks to complete it on his own. 968

(KGTV) – Two people died after being struck by an oncoming vehicle along I-8 Sunday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, a single vehicle was involved in a crash on I-8 near El Cajon Boulevard just before 1:30 a.m.Following the crash two good Samaritans stopped to help the man out of his vehicle.While the crash victim and one of the good Samaritans were talking on the side of the road, another vehicle failed to see them, striking and killing both victims, according to CHP. Last Friday, Shannon Torres returned to her home along Murray Drive around noon with her 3-year-old son. "Her heart dropped. She was terrified," said husband Omar Torres.Torres says she found the front unlocked and the French doors leading into the family room open."They had kicked it open and splintered it up near the top," he said.Inside the house, the bedroom drawers were open and Shannon's jewelry boxes were gone and along with them, dozens of pieces of jewelry.Among the missing items: a pearl necklace from her aunt that Shannon wore at her wedding, diamond earrings from her husband for their anniversary, and a silver-and-gold bird necklace. The latter was a Mother's Day present. The couple have three sons, ages eight, six and three."It's very sad. Heartbreaking," said Torres.That feeling was made more intense when they realized what else was in the jewelry boxes: a yellow-and-white flash drive on a key ring and a black SanDisk memory stick. DUNDEE, Michigan — A 39-year-old woman was charged in connection with a fraudulent dog sale scheme.Police said Vanessa Young sold twelve sick puppies to unsuspecting buyers.Most of the dogs were sold for 0. Young told the buyers the dogs were healthy and registered with the American Kennel Club. However, the buyers discovered the claims to be false and the dogs became very ill shortly after the sale – and some even died, said police. Many of the victims spent thousands of dollars in veterinary care while trying to save and treat the puppies.Dundee Police Chief Tim Garbo said Young’s arrest came after a year-long investigation.Young is charged with felony defrauding and false pretenses and could face up to 5 years in prison or a ,000 fine.She was arraigned in First District Court of Monroe on Tuesday and has been released on bond. 860
