SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police searched Friday for a very tall man who robbed a Hillcrest bank with a semi-automatic handgun. The man walked into the California Bank and Trust at 3737 Fifth Avenue about 9:15 a.m., police said. Officers said the man demanded money from a teller who gave him cash, then he ran from the bank. A witness said the man dropped some of the money as he fled the area. No injuries were reported. Police said the man is black, 6’5” tall, and 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a fisherman's hat, dark sunglasses, a dark colored hoodie, and khaki pants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego’s unemployment rate is near historic lows, but plenty of people are still out of work. 10News is exploring ways to help you improve your competitive edge in the job market. “I freelance, and I have a part-time job that has been helping me get through,” said Katie Orchard, who has been looking for full-time work for the past four months. Orchard is in search of stability, but in a competitive job market, that search becomes more difficult. With a job market continually changing, how do you improve your edge and stand out?According to Allie Barara and Dana Ellison, both recruiters at Creative Circle in San Diego, the key to standing out, is your resume. It’s kinda like that black hole of the unknown once you submit your resume,” said Allie Barara. Barara says, job candidates need to be specific with programs and software. “I think what a lot of people miss on their resume, is that they don’t spell out the specific softwares they are proficient in. I think showing that at the top of their resume is really going to highlight and give you those extra buzzwords,” said Barara. Another way to make your resume stand out is including or obtaining certificates in your specific field of interest. According to Dana Ellison, a senior recruiter, a common mistake job seekers make is not applying for the right job.“I say titles are a little nebulous. If you see a job and say hey this describes all the skill sets I do, but it’s not how I’m marketing myself, that would be a great way to start,” said Ellison. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University has extended its stay-at-home order for on-campus students until Sept. 14 at 9 a.m., university officials announced on Monday.SDSU said they have seen "significantly reduced activity" in the College Area over the Labor Day weekend thanks to the current order. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego’s rainy winter led to a bug-infested spring which is, in turn, giving away to a spider-filled summer. County of San Diego officials say 2019 could bring a “bumper crop” of orb weaver spiders due to an increase of its food supply. “So, you’re probably going to be running into a lot of spider webs very soon, if you haven’t already,” said County supervising vector ecologist Chris Conlan. Conlan has a term for what happens after a person walks into a web: the crazy spider dance. Orb weaver spiders, which include any spider that weaves a web, are usually not harmful to people, according to Conlan. They generally don’t bite unless they’re threatened. “A well-fed female can be a pretty imposing spider,” Conlan said to County News Center. “But they’re generally nothing to be worried about. In all honesty, if you run into their web, their general reaction is to bail off quick. They don’t like to hang around once something that’s big enough to smash through their web hits it. They know it’s not anything they want to tackle and wrap up to eat.” Conlan recommends avoiding walking through areas spiders can use as anchor points.
