SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- During this COVID-19 pandemic, many unsung heroes have stepped up to offer assistance in this critical time of need. And that includes a local pilot, who helping those workers, that help him to get off the ground. Anthony Oshinuga became interested in becoming a pilot when he was 5-years old, and now he's a veteran of the air. Anthony's need for speed and adrenaline led him to racing and performing aerobatics. But he calls his latest piloting adventure, his most rewarding. Flying his own biplane, he traveled across in the country for a campaign he calls, "Reach for the sky...we've got the ground"."Essentially, what that means, is for the support crew that is on the ground at each airport we visited. We delivered a COVID-19 relief package that had face masks, hand sanitizer, and then we gave them a mug to say thank you. We appreciate what you are doing."It was quite a trip for the Valley Center resident, as his flight included 44 stops in 22 locations."My sponsor, Epic Fuel,s, put together this campaign that covered six thousand nautical miles, in my biplane, traveling about 160 miles per hour, " says Anthony. His trip was about giving thanks to airport employees."We have people at the airport, like the guys who fuel the trucks, and those workers who greet people coming off private jets. There are interactions and contact with these people all the time, and we don't think about that."And along his journey, he was able to visit with young kids, and maybe inspire them to become pilots one day. "There were a few stops along the way where people got word of me stopping in. A bunch of kids came out that were S.T.E.M motivated. They were students going through the engineering program, and I got the opportunity to meet them and speak to them, and just to inspire them."It was definitely a trip of a lifetime."Flown six thousand miles with that message, and making it out pretty good right." 1942

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Halloween is just as much about the labor of decorating homes for trick-or-treaters than it is about getting free candy. Some homes go all out, with haunted houses and elaborately designed porches to welcome neighbors for the holiday — if they dare.If you're unable to get out to a local Halloween event, like Del Mar's Scream Zone or The Haunted Trail in Balboa Park, a trip around town for local decorations is a great alternative. Here are more areas to take the kids out for Halloween in San Diego this year: Trick-or-Treat on Maryland StreetWhere: Maryland Street, San Diego (between Lincoln and Meade)A stretch of home on Maryland Street is known to get crazy for Halloween, with neighbors hosting decorated homes and even an animatronic dragon!  The Great Pumpkin's HalloweentownWhere: 5221 Joan Court, San DiegoThe Great Pumpkin has visited this College Area neighborhood for more than 50 years, delivering fun scares for residents. Three areas hosting graveyards, pirates, and of course The Great Pumpkin await! Bressi RanchWhere: CarlsbadCarlsbad's Bressi Ranch is known to get into the Halloween spirit, with elaborately spooky homes that often look like they're professionally decorated! Witches LairWhere: 1416 Shadow Hills Drive, San MarcosEvery Halloween, this home becomes the bell of the ball for San Marcos residents. Decked out with graveyards, skeletons, and more! Kensington &  Mission HillsThese two neighborhoods get a lot of credit from San Diegans looking to see Halloween decorations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Flu-related deaths rose to 11 in San Diego County over the last week, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. The agency reports that the latest flu death was a 51-year-old woman from North County who died on December 31. She had underlying medical conditions, health officials confirm. To date, 11 people have died locally from the flu this season – the same number as this time last year. The number of lab confirmed cases also jumped last week to over 1,600, 260 more than the previous week. “Given the high number of cases, influenza activity in the region continues to be widespread, just like it is in other parts of the nation,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The best protection against the flu is getting vaccinated. This year’s flu vaccine matches the viruses circulating this season.”So far this season, there have been more than 5,400 lab-confirmed cases of the flu. Last season, there were a little over 2,130. 1003
