PARIS, April 27 (Xinhua) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy says he wants to enhance Franco-Sino relations at all levels because China has an indispensable role to play on the global stage.The French president was speaking in an interview with Xinhua Tuesday before his visit to China, where he will attend the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.President Sarkozy described bilateral ties and partnership as comprehensive as well as strategic."Comprehensive, because it covers all aspects of our relationship; strategic, because China has become an absolutely essential player on the international stage. There is no more big issue today that we can tackle without China," Sarkozy said.Referring to the establishment of the France-China diplomatic relations 45 years ago, the president said some misunderstanding between the two countries had belonged to the past and he held a firm confidence in China's future."This is why I made the strengthening of the Franco-Chinese partnership a priority of our foreign policy," Sarkozy said.He said relations between the two countries had warmed and France would like to further ties with China "in all dimensions."

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), watched Friday evening an opera of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) which was adapted from the Chinese classic A Dream of Red Mansions.The DPRK Phibada Opera Troupe staged in Beijing the adaptation of the masterpiece by Cao Xueqin, a novelist in the 18th century. XIAMEN, Fujian, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Two foreigners were killed and another injured in an aggravated debt dispute Saturday night in the coastal city of Xiamen in east China's Fujian Province, local police said.The dead included a woman from Venezuela and a man whose nationality was not unknown yet.The other foreigner, who was a suspect as the police said, was hospitalized for injuries. His nationality was not confirmed either.The police did not reveal if there were other people involved in the case.Initial investigation showed the homicide was triggered by a debt dispute. One dagger had been found on the scene, near the Marco Polo Hotel on Jianye Road.It was unclear when the homicide happened, but local police said they received a report about it at 9:52 p.m.Local police were still investigating the case.

BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce Tuesday made a cautious prediction for the outlook of the nation's foreign trade for the rest of the year amid the fragile global economic recovery.The rebound of China's overseas shipments in the first quarter can largely be attributed to the low comparison base of the same period last year, the commerce ministry report said.Moreover, uncertainty in the global market remains as high unemployment in European Union nations and low capacity-utilization in the United States may dampen consumption and investment, the report said.China is facing deteriorating trade conditions as trade protectionism is on the rise, the report added.China suffered 19 trade-remedy investigations in the first quarter, up 93.5 percent over the same time last year. The investigations, targeting Chinese products, involved trade worth 1.19 billion U.S. dollars, the report said.The report also said higher costs may squeeze domestic enterprises' profits as a result of raw material price hikes and rising labor costs.China's exports increased 28.7 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2010 after dipping 16 percent last year amid the global economic downturn, customs data showed.

TOKYO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao described Tuesday his visit to Japan as successful, saying it has deepened trust, enhanced cooperation and consolidated the foundation for friendship between the two countries.In an interview with Japanese public broadcaster NHK, the Chinese premier called his visit to Japan "a journey of confidence and hope."Wen said he has achieved the visit's objectives of deepening mutual trust, enhancing cooperation and consolidating the foundation for friendship. "The visit is successful," he said.Important agreements were reached at his talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, including re-establishing a hot line between the heads of the two governments, creating a maritime communication mechanism between the two defense departments and speeding up the establishment of a maritime rescue agreement, Wen said.The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and identified green economy, energy and environmental protection and e-commerce as priority areas for cooperation, he said."Cooperation between China and Japan enjoys broad prospects," said Wen.The Chinese premier also called for promoting bilateral cultural and people-to-people exchanges, saying these exchanges are fundamental to the friendship between the two countries.After concluding a three-day visit to Japan earlier Tuesday, Wen is now in Mongolia for a two-day official visit.
