SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Padres are heading to the postseason, and while fans can’t attend games at Petco Park, the team is giving the Friar Faithful a chance to cheer them on at the ballpark while in their cars.The Padres Postseason Watch Party will take place during next week’s Wild Card round, with the drive-in event happening in Petco Park’s Lexus Premier Lot on K Street, off 14th Street.RVs and campers will not be allowed at the watch party.The games will be shown on three separate large LED video screens, and fans at the event will be able to choose from different restaurant partners -- depending on the game -- when it comes to the ballpark eats. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- There are increasing calls for more police oversight. In San Diego, a proposed measure would create a new independent body to investigate alleged misconduct. Both San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and District Attorney Summer Stephan have pledged support for a new body to hold police accountable.Maresa Talbert with San Diegans for Justice said they welcome the support, but there is still some skepticism.“It seems very reactionary after all of this pressure that now they come out and support. This ballot measure is not a new thing. This has been proposed since 2012,” Talbert said.There is currently a Citizens Review Board on Police Practices, but Talbert said it is far from independent. “Their legal council is the city attorney, who represents both the Police Officers Association and the CRB so it represents a true conflict of interest,” Talbert said. The new proposed commission would have the ability to investigate cases. It would also have independent lawyers and subpoena power. The head of the San Diego POA said the support a measure on the ballot to let the people decide what is best for police oversight. “I think if people go into things with an investigative mind trying to find the truth, I think that any of these things can be very effective,” said POA President Jack Schaeffer. Talbert said even if passed, the city council still has to write an ordinance and some of the language could change. That is something she would not agree with.“We know that this is a true well-rounded, a true balance, and a truly comprehensive model,” Talbert said. 1598

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This New Year’s Day organ donor heroes will be honored on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float.One of those heroes is a Everardo Martinez, a San Diego father of three whose life was cut short by a fatal aneurysm. After Martinez passed, his wife Adriana worked closely with Lifesharing San Diego to donate his organs.“It’s comforting, it’s comforting to know my husband lives on through those recipients,” said Adriana. “I’m deeply honored my husband was able to transform their lives.”Everardo was able to save three lives with his selfless gift.His wife and children traveled to Irwindale to help decorate the Lifesharing float that will honor Everardo and 43 other organ donors. Adriana also spent eight hours on a floral portrait of her husband that will be featured on the float. “It’s an honor, a true honor to be able to honor my husband’s legacy and memory,” said Adriana. But now there’s another layer making body art a deep, personal connection with a loved one, using their DNA in the ink of your tattoo.It's a distinct idea on an art form thousands of years old."Probably 90 percent of the people who are on this journey with us now start off saying, 'This is a gimmick,'" says Everence Co-Founder Patrick Duffy.That includes Duffy’s Co-Founder, former Navy SEAL Boyd Renner.“I had never had a tattoo," adds Renner. “I did 28 years in the Navy, never wanted one.”But it's no gimmick. Imagine, the ability to take a loved one with you everywhere you go, in a tattoo.“I had the idea, wouldn’t it be cool to somehow turn that tattoo into some kind of vessel or reliquary,” says Duffy. “Perhaps even a piece of the person for memorializing.”That’s the moment Duffy convinced his old Navy SEAL buddy to join him on this business venture.“One thing I learned from 28 years in the Navy is every military guy I ever met carried something with them,” says Renner thinking back to his SEAL deployments.For those entering combat zones, knowing there’s a chance they may never return, a picture, a keepsake, and for many some form of tattoo honoring or memorializing a loved one that inspires them is what they take into combat with them.What they came up with was Everence. DNA from a loved one, taken with a simple cheek swab, sent to their labs in Virginia, purified and encapsulated in a medical grade material, then broken down into powder form to be mixed with tattoo ink.“The concept is based on a very, very simple premise that people are free to be their best when they feel a sense of connection to what inspires them,” adds Duffy.For San Diego tattoo artist Laura Crow, whose clientele is heavily based in the military or law enforcement, the idea was intriguing.“I was interested, yet skeptical,” says Crow.Skeptical at first, like many. After all, it’s the DNA from another human being or source. So how does it work?“It goes into the body the same as tattoo ink, and it is designed to be recognized by the body the exact same way as a non-hazardous foreign body,” explains Duffy.Tattoo artist Crow says the technology does align with some of her clientele. “A lot of my clients go and deploy for six months, four months, into war zones,” says Crow. “And I could definitely see some of them want to have their tattoos have the DNA of their children, their wives, to take a little bit of home.”The co-founders are clients too. Duffy has the DNA of his daughter in his tattoo depicting a story they love. And Renner, the Navy SEAL who never wanted a tattoo, now has the DNA of his wife  - inspired by her resilience battling Cystic Fibrosis. They were together the day he got his.“She was able to take the Everence, her encapsulated DNA, and add it to the red ink that they added to the red rose on the tattoo,” says Renner proudly displaying the art on his left calf. 3071

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego City Council has voted to tentatively approve a prohibition of electric scooters on the city’s boardwalks. The Council voted 5-4 Monday afternoon to approve the ban. The prohibition will include Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay Park Bayside Walk and the La Jolla Shores Boardwalk. Earlier this year, councilmembers voted for regulations on the dockless scooters.
