SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Lakeside mother made a life-changing sacrifice for a teenager she had never met.“I went into this not knowing if I would ever meet the family,” said Tiffany Jokerst of the surgery.Jokers, a math teacher, has spent her life giving to others. She was web surfing when she noticed a post that would push her to do even more.“I actually saw a story online about a little girl who needed a kidney,” said Jokerst.Without hesitation, Jokerst launched into the process, only to learn she was not a match to the girl. However, Jokerst was a match to 17-year-old Alejandro Hernandez.“Alejandro has been struggling with kidney disease all his life, finally his kidneys failed,” said Dr. Elizabeth Ingulli of Rady Children’s Hospital.The hospital currently has 29 patients on its transplant waiting list.Jokerst agreed to the surgery and Hernandez received the transplant he desperately needed.“I can play soccer, work out, hang out with my friends,” Hernandez said.Jokerst and Hernandez met for the first time Tuesday. San Diego (KGTV) - A San Diego man claims San Diego County Sheriff deputies roughed him up in jail and the incident was caught on camera.He’s calling the deputies' actions an abuse of power.“I’m actually pissed,” said Joshua Strode. “I’m actually very angry.”San Diego State University police arrested Strode back in June for being drunk in public, something he denies.Strode was taken to San Diego Central Jail. He claimed he was inside the first-floor intake area when deputies came at him from all directions.“I kept on trying to tell them, 'You’re hurting me badly, please stop," he said.A video given to Team 10 from inside the jail shows Strode’s encounter with law enforcement. 692
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A marijuana delivery driver was robbed at gun point and shot in North Park late Friday.According to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims, the 21-year-old victim was making a delivery in the 2000 block of Haller Street at about 9:01 p.m. when a gunmen approached his vehicle and demanded marijuana.Related: Million dollar Fed?cartel seizureThe driver grabbed the suspect's gun and as they wrestled for the weapon the driver was shot twice in the right hand. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hillcrest man was left feeling helpless after he spots a burglar inside his home on Christmas Eve while he was on the other side of the country. Tyler Luna was visiting family in Mississippi when he wanted to check on a recent gift from a client. He got a red flower that is supposed to bloom on Christmas. Before he left, he set up surveillance cameras and placed the flower in a window nearby. He opened the app on his phone and saw the flower and a thief inside his home."Your heart sinks and its like what’s happening," Luna said. In a panic, Luna called 911 but the Mississippi dispatchers told him they couldn’t help. He flew home Christmas night and met with police immediately to file a police report. "It was very scary."When he went inside his home he found his class ring missing, his watch drawer empty of all watches, and some valuables in his nightstand, all gone.
