Their brain is rewarded when their brainwaves are in a certain range with a screen that brightens and audio that plays louder in their headphones.“The brain is training to do what we’re asking it to do," Myles said.Think of it as conditioning, just like any other part of the body.“Your brain is a muscle, just as if you were to have a sprained ankle or a broken leg. You can’t expect someone to run a race with it," Tripp said.Shelli sees the methods they use at The Mind Gym as a way to treat mental health beyond traditional paths such as medication, and a way to reach breakthroughs that can feel hard to find.“It’s kind of like an onion. It will unfold stuff," Myles said. "So the importance of having a counselor while you’re doing neurofeedback is important.”Though it is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health says Neurofeedback is an alternative method that has shown improvement in treating many mental health disorders. But its report suggests the benefits aren’t long-lasting.“I’m able to sleep for the first time in my life," Tripp said.Tripp says her sessions twice a week for six months have undeniably worked for her.“Colors are brighter, food tastes different, it’s beyond words really," Tripp said. “To know I could have transformed my life so long ago, nobody should be struggling right now that this is out there.” 2506

Isaias re-intensified into a Category 1 hurricane Monday evening shortly before approached the Carolina coast with top winds of 85 MPH, as of 9 p.m. ET.The National Hurricane Center said Isaias came ashore late Monday near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, as a minimal hurricane. Top observed wind gusts were found in Oak Island, North Carolina, at 87 MPH. Hurricane warnings are in effect for parts of the Carolina coast around the North Carolina/South Carolina border.The National Hurricane Center said it expects Isaias to pack hurricane-force winds over a small area of the coast, but much of the East Coast should be preparing for tropical storm conditions.Tropical storm warnings extend from South Carolina all the way to Maine. INDIANAPOLIS -- The 16-year-old adopted son of a man killed in a house fire last week has been charged as an adult with murder, arson and auto theft, court records show.Jordan Marin-Doan, 16, was arrested on Saturday in connection to the fire that killed his adopted father, 45-year-old Jason Doan, last Thursday.Doan’s husband, Alan Marin, and their two other adopted children were able to escape the home safely.Marin told police he and his husband woke up to find a fire blocking their exit. Doan helped Marin and two of their children escape through an upstairs window, before succumbing to the flames and smoke inhalation."He saved me and my kids," Marin said. "He gave his life for us, making sure we were OK. He got me out with my kids and told me to take them to a safe place. According to the affidavit, the most recent threat was made on Oct. 28 – less than a week before the fire.Marin-Doan allegedly wanted to kill his adopted parents so “he could get a cell next to his biological father in prison.”Police said Marin-Doan was not mad at the time of his arrest and said he did not know why he started the fire.
