Liquidation sales are finally starting at hundreds of Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores around the US, as the troubled toy retailer begins the process of going out of business. Most stores will start their liquidation sales Thursday, March 22, at 10 a.m. or when doors open.Millions of parents and children are dreaming of bargains on Barbies and savings on Star Wars. But before you grab an empty shopping cart and start hunting for Black Friday-style bargains, you may want to know a few cautions. If earlier Toys R Us closing sales are any indication, among the 200 stores that started liquidating in February, you may want to bring some skepticism along with your wallet. We went to one store at the beginning of its closing sale, and shoppers said they were not impressed. So here are 9 commonly asked questions:1. How big are the discounts? In the first week, they may not be great.  We found signs saying "up to 40 percent off," but most items had much less of a discount than 40 percent?off. Ten or 20 percent off was more the norm in the first few days, and 10 percent off may not be any great deal.2. Will they discount recent sales prices?  No, as with any liquidation sale, discounts are off full list price. Because of that, our check found that Lego sets and video games like Call of Duty were no cheaper than the same items at Walmart, despite the 20 percent markdown.3. Is everything on markdown? They may be this time.  However, among stores that started liquidating in February, diapers, baby wipes, and formula were not on sale.  That may change, as stores need to clear out everything this time.4. How do you know if the item is a deal? You may want to use a price comparison app like RedLaser, where you scan the bar code of the toy you are thinking of buying, to see if it is cheaper elsewhere. Or simply look up the item on Amazon or Walmart.com.5. Will they honor gift cards? Yes, until April 15th, according to the store.  But you may want to use them in the next week, because pickings will get slimmer and slimmer as the days go on.6. What if something is broken or missing? You will be stuck. All sales are final.7. What about the Babies R Us gift registry?  That will stay open until the stores close, but parents of newborns may want to start a new registry somewhere else.  8. Is Babies R Us really closing? For now, yes. Babies R Us may stay open IF a buyer steps forward.  Rumors have Amazon buying some Babies R Us and top performing Toys R Us stores, but nothing is confirmed yet.9. When will you find the best deals?  Typically a week after the sale starts, when most items remaining drop to 50 percent off.  But you won't find the hottest toys (Playstations, Apple products, American Girl dolls, etc) after the first few days.As always, don't waste your money.________________________"Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. LA MESA, CA (KGTV) — Parents of children in an East County school district were looking forward to their kids returning to campus at the end of this month, but that might not happen.Students in the La Mesa-Spring Valley District are scheduled to return Nov. 30, but if San Diego County's COVID-19 cases push the county back to the most restrictive purple tier, that will not happen.Meg Jacobsen is the executive director of the district's education services. Her seven-year-old daughter is also a student in the district."My daughter loves to go to virtual school, but being on a zoom all day can be hard for students, especially little ones," said Jacobsen.Under the state's health mandate, schools that are already open in some capacity would not be affected by moving back a tier, but schools that are closed would not be able to open."If schools have opened for in-person learning, then they can continue with what they are doing. At some schools, where they may have opened several grade levels, say they opened K-3, and they planned to continue adding grade levels, those schools would be able to continue doing that," said Bob Mueller, program specialist at the San Diego County Office of Education. The mandate applies to individual school sites."In other places, where you might have one school in a school district opened and other schools not, those schools would be frozen," said Mueller.Jacobsen is hoping the county's number of COVID-19 cases goes down."This has been a rocky road the past six months for us. Our teachers have been just absolutely amazing," said Jacobsen. The district initially planned to open in mid-October but pushed back the date partly because of the outbreak of cases at nearby San Diego State."Like so many things in 2020, we've had to, I think the word is, pivot, make plans A, B, C and then when we find something new, we are prepared, but we have to be prepared and adjust the way we go," said Jacobsen.San Diego Unified is still planning to bring more students back on campus in January. Oceanside's school district is bringing back elementary students on Nov. 9, middle, and high school students are scheduled to return in January.Schools impacted by the purple tier would not be able to open until mid-December."Schools that haven't reopened in any capacity would essentially be frozen there for a minimum of five weeks," said Mueller."It's a waiting game at this point," said Jacobsen. Elementary schools would be allowed to apply for a waiver from the county to try to reopen. 2530

LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A work trailer slammed into a home, nearly hitting a girl holding her baby sister in East County Monday afternoon. Just before 1 p.m. Monday a trailer filled with debris at a home under construction started rolling down the Palm Avenue in Lemon Grove. “It sounded like a crash at first,” said Abigail Jimenez, who was inside the home at the time of the crash. “I was inside and laying down in the couch and I hear some noise and something was beeping and it pushes my couch and my baby sister was with me,” Jimenez added. Fortunately, no one inside the home at the time of the crash was injured. The building inspector had to yellow tag the house, saying enough damage was done to the home to limit the family’s access. I was scared after I found what happened because it pushed us and I didn't know if it was a dream or not but thank God that we didn't get hurt or anything,” Jimenez said. 929

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- While many drivers say a new Caltrans project in the East County is making SR-67 safer, some say it's literally making them sick to their stomach.Long considered one of the most dangerous roads in San Diego County, Caltrans is currently working on a million project to improve safety between Lakeside and Ramona.  A key part of the project is the installation of flexible posts called "channelizers" in the median.  Channelizers are bright yellow so they can be easily seen, helping prevent cars from drifting across the center into oncoming traffic."I think it'll save lives. I really do," Andy Jones tells 10News. Jones regularly drives the 67 for work. However, since the channelizers began being installed over the last few weeks, there have been a handful of reports of drivers becoming queasy.  One man told 10News the way the light reflects off the channelizers at night makes him feel nauseated.  The Ramona Sentinel reports that two people have called the Ramona Planning Board with similar complaints.Driver Donna Gines says the channelizers make her feel safer on her regular drives from Rancho Bernardo to Barona, but she can understand whey they could make some people feel ill."Some people don't react well to reflectors," she said. "It's kind of like a strobe light, maybe? And maybe it does make them dizzy."Caltrans tells 10News they have not received any direct complaints. However, after 10News raised the concern, Caltrans decided to do a review of how the channelizers are functioning.  They plan to send crews at different times of day to see if any changes need to be made. 1663
