Fiesta Island is open to pedestrians, dogs and cyclists as of June 8 but will not open for cars until July 6.Starting Tuesday, June 9, all San Diego piers and boardwalks are open. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Oakland on Tuesday became the second U.S. city to decriminalize magic mushrooms after a string of people shared how psychedelics helped them overcome depression, drug addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder.The City Council voted unanimously to decriminalize the adult use and possession of magic mushrooms and other entheogenic, or psychoactive, plants. Denver voters approved a similar measure for people 21 and older last month.Speakers overwhelmingly supported the move, describing substances like peyote as traditional plant-based medicines. One man who described himself as a former heroin addict said such plants saved his life. Some offered mystical descriptions of the hallucinogens as providing spiritual healing.The vote makes the investigation and arrest of adults who grow, possess, use or distribute entheogenic plants one of the lowest priorities for police. This comes after the President ordered that medals and honors for prosecutors in the case be revoked."I think it's troubling," said University of San Diego Law Professor Robert Muth in an interview with 10News. "As the Commander in Chief, it would be his prerogative to weigh in if he felt there was something wrong. However, that would be done in a very different way. You would expect it to be done discreetly."Gallagher was accused of several war crimes during a tour of duty in Iraq. The central charge was that he murdered a prisoner of war, a wounded teenage ISIS fighter. Gallagher was acquitted of that charge. The case drew national attention, including from President Trump, who suggested that Gallagher was a hero who was being treated unfairly. Several people criticized how the JAG prosecutors handled the case."President Trump saw that they were abusing their power," said John Dadian, a San Diego political strategist who also served in the Marine Corps. "Not only manacling him during the trial, but confining him to quarters, he had a hard time taling to his lawyers. That's not fair." Dadian says many military veterans believe the President did the right thing by stepping in.Muth is worried about the President's actions setting a precedent. (KGTV) - Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez announced she will introduce two new housing bills in the state assembly this week.One of them aims to prohibit developers from separating affordable housing units from market rate units in the same building.The bill came in response to a fight last summer between Canadian developer, Pinnacle and Civic San Diego, the city agency that was responsible for overseeing design approval.Pinnacle had submitted plans for a building on 11th Avenue between A & B Streets. The main tower was 32 stories tall and would be available at market rates. The tower was attached to an eight-story building that would house 58 affordable units, in order to satisfy the density bonus granted to Pinnacle for this and two other projects in the area.But Civic San Diego rejected the plan on the grounds that the affordable housing units had a separate entrance and restricted access to amenities in the 32-story tower, including the pool.“We can’t create a system that allows developers to separate out folks,” said Gonzalez at a press conference on Monday.A draft summary of the bill, AB 2344, stated it will “prohibit the owner or agent of an owner from isolation the affordable housing units within that structure to a specific floor or area within the structure.”After Civic San Diego rejected the proposal from Pinnacle, the developer came back with a new plan that eliminated the eight-story affordable housing section entirely.
