Italian restaurant chain Olive Garden is denying that it has made contributions to President Donald Trump's campaign as thousands have called for a boycott of Olive Garden. It all started over the weekend after a now-deleted tweet claimed Olive Garden has contributed to Trump's campaign. After the tweet went viral, thousands on Twitter and Facebook used the hashtag #BoycottOliveGarden to spread the word. On Monday, Olive Garden fired back on its Twitter account. "We don’t know where this information came from, but it is incorrect," Olive Garden tweeted. "Our company does not donate to presidential candidates."According to the Federal Election Commission, it appears the accusations that Olive Garden and its parent company Darden supported Trump were false. Corporations are forbidden in directly contributing to elections, according to FEC guidelines.Previously, Darden operated a Political Action Committee that many top executives contributed to. According to government filings, the Darden Restaurants, Inc. Employees Good Government Fund PAC made significant contributions to a number of Republican and Democrat leaders. In the 2013-14 election cycle, the fund made contributions to both the Democratic and Republican House and Senate election committees. At the end of 2015, Darden announced it was ending the PAC.Although Darden and Olive Garden cannot make contributions directly, many top executives for Darden have made individual political contributions. According to FEC filings, only one of the 19 Darden executives listed on its website made a contribution to a presidential campaign since 2015. Susan Connelly, a Darden Senior VP, contributed ,700 to Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign ((,000 to Hillary Victory Fund, ,700 to Hillary for America)). She also made a ,500 National Republican Senate Committee contribution and a ,300 donation to the Democratic National Committee. 1919

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Florida man's good deed is not going unnoticed after he bought over 100 generators and food to send to the Bahamas. Alec Sprague, who lives in Jacksonville, said he went a Costco to buy a generator, and saw a man purchasing over 100 of them. Sprague said the man was buying the generators and food to send to the Bahamas. In a Facebook post, Sprague stated, "Was just in Costco off Collins getting a generator (at 0 each) and this guy right here is purchasing over 100 generators and food to send to the Bahamas! All I could do was shake his hand and thank him! There still are good people in the world!" To help donate, 659

Late last Saturday night, Ethan Crispo had just left a friend's birthday party in Birmingham, Alabama, and walked into a Waffle House around midnight to grab a bite.Crispo told CNN only a single employee was working in the restaurant. He described the cook's face, as "awash in bewilderment," at finding he was by himself managing the night shift.More than 30 people were there eating, and there was just one man left to "fend off the incoming crowd of hungry, heavily imbibed customers," Crispo said.He became resigned to going home on an empty stomach. But a customer finished his meal, asked for an apron and stepped behind the counter to wash dishes."It was a smooth transition," Crispo, 24, said. "He just busted his butt and helped out."'It was one of my most memorable experiences'Crispo said he asked Ben, the lone associate working, who the man washing dishes was.Turns out he didn't work at the restaurant, nor did he work at a Waffle House anywhere.Another woman, wearing a dress and heels, also stepped up. She walked behind the counter to get a coffee pot."At first I thought it was out of necessity, like she just wanted coffee," Crispo said. But she was enlisting as a second member of the volunteer staff. The two worked together in a team, busing tables, stacking cups and washing dishes. Meanwhile, Ben, the actual employee, manned the cash register and cooked at the grill. The man washing dishes occasionally "had to ask Ben where stuff should go," Crispo said, but otherwise it was as though though two strangers, without even talking to each other, had spontaneously learned to run a restaurant in tandem.Pat Warner, a spokesman for Waffle House, told CNN the store had a miscommunication about the duty roster that night, and it had created "a little gap" in staffing."We're very appreciative and thankful, but we do prefer to have our associates behind the counter," Warner said.He added that Waffle House restaurants tend to have a special sense of community. He recalled a similar time in 2014 when diners volunteered to keep a restaurant running when paid staff couldn't get to work during Atlanta's notorious Snowmageddon storm. But, for Crispo it was the first time, and it'll stick out to him for years to come, as an example of humanity at its best."I've never seen anything like this ever happen, nor will I again, probably," Crispo said. "It was one of my most memorable experiences." 2424

It's a tough time to get into the retail business, but figurine maker Funko thinks its toys are popular enough to make it work. The company that produces the popular toys with heads that bobble plans to open up a nearly 40,000-square-foot store in Los Angeles later this year."So many people are looking for an experience when they shop — not just buying things," Funko CEO Brian Mariotti told CNN Business in an exclusive interview. "This is retail times pop culture."Funko is known for its vinyl figures that are based on popular movie, TV and comic book characters. It also reproduces real life athletes. The company has licenses with most big studios, including Disney for its Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars characters, Warner Bros. for the DC Comics and Harry Potter franchises as well as Pokémon. (Warner Bros., like CNN, is owned by AT&T's WarnerMedia.)The LA store will be located on Hollywood Boulevard, not far from the famous TCL Chinese Theatre. It will neighbor a Shake Shack and SoulCycle — in other words, trendy. Mariotti said the company is targeting both tourists and local residents.Funko already runs a smaller retail outlet at its corporate headquarters in Everett, Washington. Mariotti said that when the company opened that store up, he thought it would be a hit with pop culture enthusiasts and Funko employees. The store wound up exceeding those expectations.Mariotti said moms with young kids are big fans. Many customers are repeat visitors, too. That proved to Funko that it might be a good idea to set up shops in cities that could attract a mix of local fans and enthusiasts willing to travel to the store. The new Hollywood location will let customers pose with life-size Funko figures and sit in a toy version of the Batmobile, he said.He added that the company was still working with the building developer and local officials in Los Angeles, so the store won't be ready for a while. But he hopes to open it in time for Halloween. Parts of the store are being built in Washington and shipped down to California. If the store is a success, Mariotti said that more Funko locations could open up in other tourist meccas, such as London, Tokyo and Las Vegas. But he was quick to point out that Funko isn't trying to compete with its retail partners. Funko, like other toy companies, sells a lot of merchandise on Amazon and at Walmart and Target. The company also has distribution at specialty retailers like GameStop and Hot Topic.Instead, Mariotti said the goal is to build even more followers for the brand, driving sales at those big retailers.Funko will report its results for the fourth quarter Thursday, and it is expected to talk more about its retail plans then. Analysts expect sales to have risen nearly 20% from a year ago and for earnings per share to have more than doubled. The stock is up more than 50% already this year. 2874
