SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -  A driver led CHP officers on an hour-long pursuit from Southern Orange County to Mission Valley Wednesday night.The chase ended on the onramp from southbound I-805 to westbound I-8.Ray Scheidnes, with California Highway Patrol, says the chase started in the San Juan Capistrano area when they received reports of someone driving erratically just after 6:30 p.m.When they tried to pull over the driver, she instead drove south on I-5 into San Diego County and eventually onto I-8.  The driver even called into 9-1-1 dispatch and tried to explain why she wasn't stopping.“I believe that she was afraid to pull over, mentioned something about possibly having some previous run-ins with law enforcement that she didn't think went too well,” Scheidnes said.Scheidnes also added they’re not quite sure why she eventually stopped in Mission Valley.“The vehicle didn't seem to run out of gas or have any mechanical problems, just came to a stop, I think she just decided to pull over,” he said.CHP says the driver is an Orange County resident. She has not been identified. There are no immediate signs of drugs or alcohol, but she could be facing charges of resisting arrest and failure to yield.  1247

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A gas leak prompted a major freeway closure in the heart of San Diego County early Wednesday, lasting hours and causing delays just as long.The leak was reported just before 11 a.m. near Ulric Street and Friars Road in Mission Valley. State Route 163 was closed in both directions from Interstate 805 to I-8 shortly after.San Diego Gas and Electric said crews must let the line "bleed out," which could last hours. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested and booked after trying to snatch a toddler from their parent's car outside of a Costco in Vista, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.The incident happened just before 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the store located at 1755 Hacienda Drive.Sheriff's Sgt. Nanette McMasters said a woman, her fiancée, and their two small children were backing out of a parking stall when the suspect opened the rear vehicle door. The suspect attempted to remove the 2-year-old child from the car.The child's parents got out of the car and confronted the suspect, identified as Adam Glavinic."The incident drew a crowd and a physical confrontation occurred between the father and Glavinic," said McMasters.An off-duty sheriff's employee and other witnesses intervened in the confrontation and held the suspect until two deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station arrived on the scene.Glavinic was arrested for attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility, according to McMasters.It's unknown at this time if the toddler, the father, or the suspect suffered any injuries during the incident.The incident remains under investigation. 1265

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two vehicles collided on Interstate 8 near State Route 79 today, injuring four people, authorities said.A black Honda sedan and a Toyota van collided near Alpine at 11:06 a.m., causing one of the vehicles to overturn and land on its roof, according to a California Highway Patrol report.Cal Fire reported four patients were taken to area hospitals.No further information was immediately available. 423

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 91-year-old La Jolla resident is the first confirmed case of West Nile virus of the year in the county.The man was hospitalized with encephalitis in September but was confirmed Thursday to have the virus by the California Department of Public Health.He has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering, according to the county.RELATED: Community gives gift of mobility to young West Nile survivorThe man had not traveled outside of the county within the month prior to becoming ill, leading officials to believe the mosquito bite was local.Mosquitos trapped near the man's home tested negative for West Nile by the county Department of Environmental Health. Nearby residents have still been notified of the case.Last year, there were two confirmed cases of West Nile in the county, a drastic decrease from the 22 cases reported in 2016, in which two people died. Residents should also prevent breeding by dumping standing water and using mosquito fish if needed. 1486
