SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities put out a call Tuesday for any additional alleged victims of a mortuary services worker accused of looting a recently deceased Spring Valley man's home, carrying away valuables with a gurney and a body bag.Sammy Willie Gates, 49, allegedly ransacked the 60-year-old man's house late on the night of Aug. 31, about 11 hours after deputies conducting a welfare check found the resident dead of natural causes, according to sheriff's officials. On Sept. 2, one of the victim's relatives reported discovering items, including a firearm and safe, missing from the residence, Sgt. Karen Bloch said. Two days later, the family reported that reviews of surveillance camera footage had revealed that the home of the victim, whose name has not been released, had been burglarized. The video clips showed a man -- later identified by investigators as Gates, owner of independently operated Mortuary Transportation Services -- arriving at the man's house in a white utility van, the sergeant said.Gates allegedly entered the home and exited shortly thereafter with two bags filled with stolen property, then returned with a gurney and an empty body bag that he used to haul away more property. On Sept. 9, detectives from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station served a search warrant at Gates' El Cajon-area home, where the deceased man's safe and gun allegedly were recovered, along with 16 additional firearms, many believed to be war relics dating back to the early 1900s."Two additional safes, multiple personal identifying documents, jewelry, watches, war medals, comic books and several thousand dollars in collectable coins were also recovered from Gates' residence," the sergeant alleged. "A gurney and body bags matching (those seen in) the surveillance video (from) the victim's residence were recovered from Gates' white utility van."Gates was jailed on suspicion of residential burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm.Since Gates' arrest, detectives have identified five additional victims of similar crimes allegedly committed by the suspect, Bloch alleged.Anyone with information about the case is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to .000. 2346

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Murder and robbery charges were filed Friday against two young men who prosecutors allege are responsible for the death of a Rancho Bernardo teen who was run over by a car in a drug robbery gone wrong.Angel Ramirez, 19, and Joshua Benjamin, 20, are accused in the March 7, 2019, death of a 16-year-old boy identified in court papers only as Christian H.Deputy District Attorney Christina Eastman alleges the defendants -- who entered not guilty pleas -- robbed the victim and, in the process of fleeing the scene, ran over the boy's head with their vehicle.RELATED: Arrest made in death of teen found in Rancho Bernardo streetAccording to the prosecutor, the victim had sought to purchase 0 worth of narcotics from Ramirez, who traveled with Benjamin to the teen's home in the 16800 block of Cresta Drive. When the teen handed his money to Ramirez, who was sitting in the backseat, Benjamin sped away, she alleged.Eastman said the victim hung onto the open rear car window in an attempt to get the drugs or his money back. Ramirez allegedly punched the teen in the face and pried his fingers from the car window, causing him to fall into the street, where his head was run over by the vehicle, she said.Prosecutors declined to comment on how they connected the men to the boy's death.RELATED: Man found dead in middle of Rancho Bernardo streetEastman said both men were awaiting sentencing on unrelated criminal cases at the time. Ramirez was on supervised release in an assault with a deadly weapon case, in which he pleaded guilty to slicing his father with a knife and striking him several times with a baseball bat, she said, while Benjamin was awaiting sentencing on a misdemeanor domestic violence case involving his girlfriend. The defendants, who each face 25 years to life in state prison if convicted in the murder case, were taken into custody Wednesday and are both being held on million bail.Ramirez is due back in court Jan. 23 for a bail review hearing, and both defendants have a Jan. 29 status conference date. 2058

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspected Russian hacker who allegedly ran an online platform where hackers could buy and sell stolen personal information has been arrested and is slated to be extradited to San Diego, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Tuesday.Prosecutors say Kirill Victorovich Firsov, 28, was the administrator for the DEER.IO platform, which provided hackers with access to virtual stores where they could buy or sell hacked and/or compromised financial corporate data, personally identifiable information and compromised user accounts. Hackers also allegedly used DEER.IO to advertise their services.DEER.IO has been operating since at least 2013, and provided users with a storefront for 800 rubles -- or about .50 -- per month, according to prosecutors. The platform was advertised as having more than 24,000 active shops, with sales exceeding million.Prosecutors say law enforcement was unable to find a single legitimate business advertising its services or products on DEER.IO.FBI agents arrested Firsov on March 7 in New York City. He is charged with unauthorized solicitation of access devices and is slated to appear in San Diego federal court on April 16.The DEER.IO platform has since been shut down, the U.S. Attorney's Office said."There is a robust underground market for hacked stolen information, and this was a novel way to try to market it to criminals hoping not to get caught," U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer said. "Hackers are a threat to our economy, and our privacy and national security, and cannot be tolerated."According to a criminal complaint, the FBI purchased around 1,100 gamer accounts on March 4 from a DEER.IO store for under in Bitcoin, with 249 of the accounts stolen from an unidentified San Diego company that "operates interactive video gaming platforms, and sells related products and services."The following day, the FBI purchased more than 3,500 personally identifiable information accounts from a DEER.IO store for around 0 in Bitcoin, providing them with the names, dates of birth and U.S. Social Security numbers for multiple San Diego County residents."DEER.IO was the largest centralized platform, which promoted and facilitated the sale of compromised social media and financial accounts, personally identifiable information and hacked computers on the internet," FBI Special Agent in Charge Omer Meisel said. "The seizure of this criminal website represents a significant step in reducing stolen data used to victimize individuals and businesses in the United States and abroad." 2552
