Twitter says it will begin removing misinformation about COVID-19 vaccinations from its site. That includes false claims that the virus is not real, debunked claims about the effects of receiving the vaccine. It will also remove baseless claims suggesting immunizations and vaccines are used to intentionally cause harm or to control people. Twitter said in a blog post on Wednesday that it will start enforcing the new policy next week. If people send tweets in violation of the rules, they will be required to delete them before they are able to tweet again. Before the offending tweet is removed, Twitter will hide it from view.Starting early next year, Twitter said it may label tweets that advance "unsubstantiated rumors, disputed claims, as well as incomplete or out-of-context information about vaccines" but may not be removed, instead be linked to "authoritative public health information" on the social media company's rules page that'll "provide people with additional context and authoritative information about COVID-19." 1043

US soccer star Hope Solo says former FIFA president Sepp Blatter grabbed her buttocks as they prepared to take the stage at an awards ceremony in 2013, the Portuguese newspaper Expresso reported. In an interview posted online, Solo was asked whether sexual harassment had been normalized."I had Sepp Blatter grab my ass," Solo said. "It was at the Ballon D'or one year, right before I went on stage. ... It's been normalized."The Ballon D'or is an annual award given to the best footballer in the world. Solo presented the FIFA's women's player of the year award in January 2013 and shared the stage with Blatter, who then was president of the world governing body of soccer.A spokesman for Blatter dismissed the allegation as "ridiculous" in a statement provided to British newspaper The Guardian and to Expresso.CNN has reached out to Blatter for comment and has not received a response. Hope Solo's representatives told CNN she doesn't want to talk to CNN about the incident.Blatter was FIFA president from 1998 until he resigned in 2015 after FIFA investigated him and other organization officials on bribery and corruption allegations. He was suspended from all football-related activities in September 2015.Solo, a goalkeeper, is one of the best-known American soccer players. She led the women's team to gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and appeared on the television show "Dancing With the Stars."She also generates controversy. In 2016 the US Soccer Federation suspended her for six months after she described Swedish players as "a bunch of cowards" for what she viewed as their defensive tactics in the 2016 Rio Olympics. In 2014 she was arrested on domestic violence charges but the case was dropped the next year. 1733

Twitter users across the US reported the social media was out on Thursday evening. The outage was first reported shortly before 6 p.m. ET, but the service began to recover within two hours. It is unclear what caused the outage."We are continuing to monitor the issue, and things appear to have returned to normal. For streams, if your connection was maintained during this period, you should have received available data since this issue also affected the publishing side of Twitter. If you disconnected at all, a Replay will recover any Tweets during your disconnect, and the volume is likely to be very small," Twitter said Thursday evening. According to Down Detector, the outage occurred nationally among thousands of users. 736

Uber has agreed to pay 56 current and former employees about ,900 each, or .9 million, to settle their claims of gender discrimination, harassment and hostile work environment. On Monday, lawyers for the plaintiffs filed paperwork in a Northern California district court that outlined how a million settlement announced in April would be divvied up. In addition to the .9 million, another .1 million will be divided among more than 480 workers, including the 56 who are receiving the other payouts. The lawsuit was filed against Uber in October 2017 by three Latina engineers who alleged they were paid less than their white or Asian male colleagues. The women claimed Uber used a discriminatory "stack ranking" system, alleging "female employees and employees of color are systematically undervalued ... because [they] receive, on average, lower rankings despite equal or better performance."Those stack rankings were then used, in part, to determine promotions, according to the lawsuit. Uber also set employee pay based on their past compensation, which inherently disadvantages women.Fifty-six workers came forward to describe their experiences with discrimination and harassment at Uber. They are a subset of a broader class that includes about 480 women and underrepresented minorities who worked in certain software engineering jobs. That broader pool of people will receive a payout of about ,700 each, based on their length of employment, title and location. Two people have opted out of the settlement thus far for undisclosed reasons, according to the paperwork.Related: Uber finally hires a chief financial officerUber did not immediately respond to request for comment. A hearing to make final approval of the settlement is slated for November 6.In July 2017, Uber said it bumped up salaries to ensure all employees, regardless of gender or race, are paid equally based on their location, job and tenure in the role. Uber said it also re-evaluated employee salaries after paying bonuses in March.Last month, Uber's head of human resources Liane Hornsey resigned following an internal investigation into how she handled racial discrimination claims within the company.EEOC investigators launched an investigation last August. They've interviewed former and current Uber employees and requested internal documents related to the company's hiring practices and wages, among other gender-related topics.The-CNN-Wire 2445
