The union representing US asylum officers asked a federal court to end the Trump administration's policy of returning some asylum seekers to Mexico for the duration of their immigration hearing."Asylum officers are duty bound to protect vulnerable asylum seekers from persecution. However, under the (Migrant Protection Protocols), they face a conflict between the directives of their departmental leaders to follow the MPP and adherence to our Nation's legal commitment to not returning the persecuted to a territory where they will face persecution," they wrote."They should not be forced to honor departmental directives that are fundamentally contrary to the moral fabric of our Nation and our international and domestic legal obligations."Asylum officers are involved in the asylum process, starting with the credible fear interview, and therefore carry an important role in carrying out the administration's policy, dubbed Migrant Protection Protocols.A lower court blocked the policy earlier this year. The 9th Circuit, however, has allowed the policy to continue pending appeal. 1098

The US Food and Drug Administration approved a drug to return sexual desire to some women with low libido, the agency said Friday. The drug, bremelanotide, sold under the brand name Vyleesi by AMAG Pharmaceuticals, is an injection to be taken before sex. It's intended to treat women who are premenopausal and have hypoactive sexual desire disorder, where a lack of interest in sex may cause significant distress in a woman's life.It will be available in September, and the company has not yet determined pricing or reimbursement information, according to AMAG spokeswoman Sarah Connors."Most women who come into my office have no idea that there's this condition ... and that they are one of millions," said Sheryl Kingsberg, division chief of Behavioral Medicine at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Kingsberg was involved in the drug's clinical trials and has served as a paid consultant for the companies responsible for its marketing and development, AMAG and Palatin Technologies.Kingsberg, a clinical psychologist, said that "the impact of sexual dysfunction on a woman's self-esteem, on her body image, on her self-confidence and on her relationship is profound."Experts say the diagnosis is the most common type of sexual dysfunction among women, estimated to affect between 1308

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday encountered a blitz of questions from House Democrats seeking to establish a legal basis for requesting President Donald Trump's tax returns. It was the first time Trump's top finance chief, a close ally of the President, was forced to publicly address the unprecedented issue of whether he would comply with an obscure law that may require him to turn over his boss' tax returns, if a formal request is made by Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal, the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.Throughout a more than two-hour hearing on Capitol Hill, Democrats asked Mnuchin to state exactly how he would handle such a request, which the secretary carefully tried to side-step, at one point, even jokingly noting, "There's a lot of interest in 6103 today" -- a reference to the tax law.Mnuchin told lawmakers he would obey the law if he receives a written request from Congress to turn over Trump's tax returns -- but also suggested that the decision to release the returns would fall to the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, the country's federal tax collector.Trump has refused to release his tax returns, 1190
