XIAMEN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China will continue to attract large influxes of foreign investment in the next few years despite uncertainties in the global economic recovery, Commerce Minister Chen Deming said Tuesday.Although uncertainties lie in the process of the global economic recovery and the development trend of the world economy would, to some extent, affect foreign investment in China, the next few years will still be a high-tide period for foreign investment inflow into the country, Chen said Tuesday at a ministerial conference at the 2nd World Investment Forum (WIF) in Xiamen City in southeast China's Fujian Province."Currently, many countries and organizations have rated China as the most appealing destination for investment, which probably would not be changed for a few years," said the minister.Foreign direct investment (FDI) this year is set to "surpass 100 billion U.S. dollars," compared to 90 billion dollars last year, an official with the ministry predicted on Sunday.During the first seven months of this year, China's FDI increased 20.65 percent year on year to 58.35 billion dollars, according to the ministry' s latest statistics.Meanwhile, some 14,459 foreign-invested companies were established in China in the first seven months, up 17.9 percent year on year.
SHANGHAI, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1.03 million people visited the Shanghai World Exposition on Saturday, a record number since the Expo opened. The total number also exceeded an earlier record. The Expo had received some 64.62 million visitors by the end of Saturday, the 169th day since the event began on May 1. The previous record was set during the 1970 Osaka World Expo in Japan, which about 64 million people attended over a six month period.Attendance may be increasing since this is the first weekend after the week-long National Day holiday and the second to last weekend before the final seven designated days from Oct. 25-31.Since early this morning, the Expo' s public transportation system has been under great pressure as visitors have been seen throughout the Expo site.Visitors needed to queue up for more than one hour before being admitted to most pavilions. Some popular pavilions, including the Oil Pavilion and Space Home Pavilion, stopped visitors from queuing up by 4 or 5 p.m. because of the large crowds. Many visitors could only walk around, take pictures outside of pavilions, or have picnics at rest area. Further, all parades were canceled due to the large number of visitors.Zhou Qian and Dai Shishi from Hangzhou described the long queues as "horrible". But Zhou said she had been prepared for the situation as they visited seven pavilions, including the Egyptian and Spanish pavilions.A visitor surnamed Zhang and her daughter, a high school student in Shanghai, entered the site at 11 a.m. but had only visited three pavilions by 6:30 p.m."And all of them are small ones. It's not a proper time to come, but it's not easy for my daughter to be free," Zhang said.A series of measures have been taken to deal with the situation, according to the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo. When the number exceeded 700,000 visitors, organizers made announcements to visitors through the World Expo official website, TV Station, mobile televisions, and telecommunication operators.Visitors were persuaded to avoid peak times on televisions seen on subways in the morning, and in the afternoons they were advised not to continue entering the site today.

Remarkable achievements have been made, he said, in high-level contacts, strategic consultations, technological exchanges, border defense exchanges and personnel training. The two countries will strengthen the friendly cooperation between their militaries, strive to maintain the sound momentum of high-level military exchanges and promote exchanges and cooperation in professional fields, Chen said.Zhasuzakov, for his part, said that Kazakhstan, as the current SCO chair, will make active efforts to advance the further development of the bloc.He spoke highly of military relations between China and Kazakhstan, saying defense cooperation between the two sides has been fruitful. He also expressed gratitude to China for its support of Kazakhstan's military build-up and personnel training. The Three Evil Forces constitute a grave threat to regional security and stability, Zhasuzakov agreed, adding that his country attaches great importance to bilateral and multilateral anti-terror cooperation.Kazakhstan is ready to join China and other SCO members in making positive contributions to the battle against the Three Evil Forces, he added.Chen arrived here Thursday morning to attend the opening ceremony of the "Peace Mission 2010" exercise, which is to be staged in south Kazakhstan with the involvement of 5,000 troops from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
