PARIS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Legislative bodies of China and France launched their regular parliamentary exchange mechanism on Thursday, vowing to further push forward the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), and Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, jointly declared the beginning of the first meeting of Sino-French Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.Wu said the launch of the high-level meeting between the two legislative bodies signals the Sino-French parliamentary exchanges were promoted to a new stage.Accoyer said the regular parliamentary exchange mechanism could serve as an important platform for both nations to exchange views on mutual concerns and promote bilateral cooperation in politics, technology, new energy and environmental protection.Ahead of the meeting, Wu and Accoyer held talks on bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation.Accoyer said France attached great importance to Wu's visit as Wu is the first Chinese top legislator that visited France in 13 years.France regards China as a strategic partner, expecting to expand all-round strategic cooperation with China, boost coordination on international issues, through joint efforts against global financial crisis, climate change and other challenges, he said.Wu said his ongoing visit to France is aimed to build a closer relation between the Chinese NPC and the French National Assembly. BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Friday solicited opinions from ten medical experts on the ongoing health care reform during a discussion in Beijing.The experts, including medical professors and hospital presidents, offered advice on some of the top issues in health care reform such as the reform of state-owned hospitals, the establishment of health care service networks at different administrative levels, and the fostering of general practitioners.Li, in charge of the national reform of the health care system, urged medical and health care professionals to fully play their role as the backbone of the reform, according to a statement released late Friday.China launched its massive health care reform last year, which seeks to provide adequate and affordable health care services to all. The State Council, or Cabinet, issued a circular in April detailing specific goals and steps for future reform.Li said more investment and human resources are needed to support health care service providers at grass-roots level to improve the service, a key task and challenge in the reform.

A total of 268 Chinese workers and engineers working at a hydro-power station project in the Patan area of Kohistan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were trapped on a mountain as a huge landslide, triggered by floods and torrential rains, washed across their work site on July 29.All 265 people were safely evacuated, except for three workers who went missing.Fourteen Chinese engineers are still taking care of the flood-ravaged project site while the remaining 59 workers are waiting for other arrangements in Islamabad.
