POINT LOMA, Calif. (KGTV) - A popular Pacific Beach restaurant is finding new life in Liberty Station, and it could be a sign of things to come for the industry.Latin Chef was forced out of its longtime home on Garnet Avenue in January. This Saturday, it will reopen at Liberty Public Station."There's not much," says owner Fredy Palma of his small space in the market. "But you won’t believe that very tasty food is going to come from here."Palma says his rent will be about half of what it used to be in Pacific Beach. He also says moving into the Public Market means he no longer has to worry about all of the little things that come along with having a brick-and-mortar location."Things like trash, telephone, light, SDG&E," he explains. He says this will let him focus more on the food and customers. It will also bring more foot traffic than what he had on Garnet.RELATED: Business booming in Pacific Beach despite empty storefrontsExecutives at Blue Bridge Hospitality, which owns Liberty Public Market, reached out to Palma after seeing a story about his struggles on 10News. "I was listening to how he was having to vacate his space and thinking, wow, this seems like a perfect fit for Liberty Public Market," says David Spatafore with Blue Bridge Hospitality.Typically, Blue Bridge Hospitality had offered spots at the market to new businesses. Latin Chef will be the first established restaurant to move into the space."Overhead keeps going up and up and up," says Spatafore. "The idea behind the Public Market is it’s kind of a condo association of retailers and restaurants to lower overhead and share expenses, making it a little easier for them. Certainly, I can see this being a wave of the future to lower overhead because there aren’t many options left."The public market concept has grown in San Diego over the last few years. Liberty Public Market opened in 2016. Since then, Little Italy has gotten a similar Food Hall, and North Park is expecting the Dam Public Market to open.RELATED: New Public Market in North Park opens for previewRELATED: Public Square opens next to Little Italy Food Hall" I think you’ll see small markets pop up throughout in kind of that communal living spirit in communities throughout San Diego," says Spatafore. For Palma, it means he gets to keep making the food he loves."It's exciting," he says. 2359

OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) – A growing number of locals who trying to make it in San Diego are flying out of the Tijuana International Airport to save money on airline tickets. In only its third year of service, San Diego's Cross Border Xpress, or “CBX”, is soaring in sales. “You can save so much money by traveling out of CBX,” said Luis Palacios, CBX's Chief Commercial Officer. The pedestrian bridge in Otay Mesa goes over the border and into the Tijuana airport. It’s located about 20 minutes south of downtown San Diego. RELATED: What to know about using Tijuana's Cross Border Xpress“More than 85 percent of our travel for the whole year, by the end of 2018, crossed in less than 15 minutes,” said Palacios. San Diegan Arun Srinivasan uses CBX to fly to business meetings in Mexico. “It’s essentially like having a second airport in San Diego that just costs less,” Srinivasan said. “Every roundtrip flight, I've saved three to four hundred dollars.” RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Local cities among top in the U.S. for staycations Srinivasan said CBX also saves him time. “[Departing from] San Diego, I have to connect through LAX or San Francisco." From the Tijuana airport, there are 35 nonstop flights throughout Mexico and two to China. Security is a concern for some travelers. A 2019 report ranked Tijuana as the most dangerous city in the world. Palacios said CBX puts safety first. “It’s totally secure. We have security in operation 24/7.” RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Getting to paradise on points this summer “The bridge puts you in the airport so you never go outside or outdoors at all,” added Srinivasan. CBX has become increasingly popular for travelers. “We are forecasting a 20 percent growth by the end of 2019,” Palacio added. 1765

Our personality affects the decisions we make, including how we shop. And as we know, Black Friday is going to be different this year. Those changes, along with having certain types of personalities, may not help our wallets.Being impulsive can lead people to make quick decisions and buy things without really thinking about it. And now that a lot of these Black Friday deals are online, it can trigger that impulsiveness, partly because we're not physically handing money over to someone.“When there’s no cash involved and there’s no real exchange like that, it’s just kind of like this single swipe, that really makes it a lot of harder to engage that part of our brain that help us make that decision in the best way for us,” said Dr. Michael Vilensky, a psychologist at Ohio State University’s Wexler Medical Center. The stress we're all feeling this year can also be a trigger. You might have family members who are sick, maybe you lost your job, and maybe you're stressed just because you haven't seen your family in a while and won't be able to during the holidays.Psychologists say we may resort to shopping to feel like we have some kind of control.“If it does feel like shopping is a way to manage difficult emotions, think of some other strategies that may be a way to do that. If it’s talking to a friend. If it’s doing some other kind of relaxing activities or stress reduction activities,” said Vilensky. In addition to this, one thing we can do to control our shopping is getting rid of apps that have a single swipe or single tap payment option. If you know you'll be shopping online, give yourself 24 hours to think about a purchase before you pay for it. That'll help you think about whether you really need or want it. 1743

Police say one person was fatally shot in Portland, Oregon, as Black Lives Matter protesters and people from a large caravan of President Donald Trump supporters clashed in the streets. It wasn’t clear if the shooting Saturday night was linked to fights that broke out as a caravan of about 600 vehicles was confronted by protesters in the city’s downtown. Police say the caravan had left the area about 15 minutes before gunshots rang out. Oregon’s largest city has been the site of nightly protests for three months since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Trump referenced the city in a speech Thursday at the Republican National Convention. 668

PARIS (AP) — Kenzo Takada, the iconic French-Japanese fashion designer famed for his jungle-infused designs and free-spirited aesthetic that channeled global travel, has died. He was 81. The family said Takada died from complications from COVID-19. Takada retired from his house in 1999 to pursue a career in art, but it remains a respected fixture in high Paris fashion. Since 1993, the brand Kenzo has been owned by luxury goods company LVMH. He studied fashion in Tokyo before relocating to Paris and taking over a boutique there in 1970. The fashion house said he was "an emblematic personality in the fashion industry — always infusing creativity and color into the world." 686
