SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Mayor Kevin Faulconer has directed city staff to reinstate San Diego Fire-Rescue Department’s Girls Empowerment Camp that was abruptly canceled last week.The event was canceled one day after attorney Al Reva sent a letter to the city’s attorney and organizers of the event.The letter claims that Reva’s client Rich Allison was “deterred and prevented from timely enrolling his son in this camp because boys were not invited to attend, based solely on their sex.”RELATED: Girls empowerment camp rescheduled after abrupt cancellation?Families who previously registered for the canceled camp will have first choice of which of the two weekends the camp is being offered they would like to participate in.“Our firefighters, staff and volunteers put their hearts and souls into this event,” said Fire Chief Brian Fennessy. “We are committed to moving forward with this excellent opportunity for young people. Last year, we heard that the Girls Empowerment Camp was a priceless experience for the campers. We want the same for our 2018 participants.”The Girls Empowerment Camp is a free two-day camp for youth ages 14-18 “regardless of age or gender.”The camp introduces participants to career opportunities in firefighting and encourages them to consider public safety as a career option.“We made a commitment to hundreds of kids and their families and we are going to stand by that,” Mayor Faulconer said. “This is an important camp that teaches kids what it’s like to be a firefighter and exposes many of them to a career opportunity they may not have considered previously. Louie is hard to miss He's the only white Chinese goose left at the lake and he's a bit of a celebrity.Dave Brandenburgh works at the concession and bait store at the lake and feeds the geese every day."Best part of my day is feeding the kids ... they always want food, but Louie is the one you have to watch out for, one minute he will be eating out of your hand and the next minute he will take my leg off!" Brandenburgh says.Nearly 100 visitors a day want to know where the cranky, white goose named Louie is located. But he has a soft spot for a little abandoned duck, named Alphie."This new little person thinks he's a goose, his bottom feathers haven't developed yet. Louie has taken him under his wing and adopted him," said Brandenburgh.But Louie's true love is a woman named "Mother Goose.""He just loves her and she's the goose whisperer," said Brandenburgh.Louie is known to attack but when he sees Mindy Dreiserd he turns to mush. She has visited him every day for 4 years. He's never tried to bite her. She can hug and even pick him up. When he had a respiratory infection, she nursed him back to health. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It’s a great time to buy a used car. “These deals are once in a lifetime,” said Ivan Drury, a used car expert with Edmunds. Amid the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic, used car prices have been decreasing. According to Bloomberg News, the average price of a used car fell 11.4% from March to April. Drury predicts those prices could continue to fall, as desperate rental car companies start to offload unused inventory. Hertz, which filed for bankruptcy on Friday, has a fleet of about 500,000 vehicles. It’s unclear what their plan is for them, but Drury suspects they will only keep enough to maintain a basic level of service. “That influx of used vehicles will have a dramatic impact on price,” he said. Adding to the supply of used cars, Drury predicts that some drivers who have leased cars will hold on to them for a few more months rather than trade them in. But in several months to a year, he expects that could lead to another flood of used vehicles. “You kind of have a perfect storm for used car values to drop even further,” said Drury. 1090
