SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday its phased plan to distribute and administer the COVID-19 vaccine from the Naval Medical Center in San Diego and the Naval Hospital in Camp Pendleton.The DOD is working with the Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.As one of the 64 jurisdictions to which the United States government has allocated vaccines, the DOD plans to administer its initial allocation of 43,875 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to populations of uniformed service members -- both actives and reserves. That includes members of the National Guard, dependents, retirees, civilian employees and select contract personnel.The department is prioritizing DOD personnel to receive the vaccine based on CDC guidance, first focusing on those providing direct medical care, maintaining essential national security and installation functions, deploying forces, and those beneficiaries at the highest risk for developing severe illness from COVID-19 before other members of the DOD population.Distribution will be conducted in phases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A car crashed Monday afternoon into the front of a Pacific Beach 7-Eleven, destroying a portion of the store.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the incident happened near Cass Street and Loring Street.Crews said the elderly man who was driving hit the gas instead of the brakes, and the car slammed through a window of the convenience store up to its windshield.The driver, customers, and the clerk working at the counter were not hurt.The car also missed the propane tanks stored in a metal cage outside the store. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego City Council members called Wednesday on California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and District Attorney Summer Stephan to investigate San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott's possible role in an alleged child sexual abuse cover-up at the San Diego Junior Theatre.Council members Scott Sherman and Vivian Moreno sent a jointly written letter to Becerra and Stephan imploring them to investigate allegations made by attorney Matt Valenti that Elliott improperly shared information on the case with then-Junior Theatre Board member Gil Cabrera, who Valenti claims tried to silence the case's whistleblowers."We are writing to respectfully request your respective offices' review and consideration for appropriate action, as the authority to investigate these complaints falls under the jurisdiction of your departments," their letter states. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A controversial retirement center proposed by Skyline Church is moving ahead following a San Diego Planning Commission vote Friday.Officials voted five to one in favor of advancing to the development to the next step.Church officials are looking to build the retirement center in the Valle De Oro neighborhood. It would be located on almost nine acres next to Skyline Church. The 232 units would be made up of independent and assistant living spaces. The facility would also have a walking trail, offices, a pool, and clinics.Those who are in support of this plan say it’s needed because of the growing aging community in the San Diego County. "This application is more than just a request. It’s asking the County’s permission to serve our community, by seeking your permission for this retirement center," said Pastor Dan Grant of Skyline Church.Opponents say this will cause traffic problems in an already congested location along I-94 just East of Via Mercado. They add, this would be a huge environmental impact on the area.Now that the Planning Commission has agreed to move forward, they will bring this recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. 1180
