LOS ANGELES (AP) — California health officials Tuesday urged consumers to stop vaping marijuana or tobacco products until investigators determine why hundreds of people nationwide have been sickened after using the devices.Ninety people with a history of vaping have been hospitalized for severe breathing problems and lung damage in the state, and two people have died. LIVE OAK SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV)- Some residents in the Live Oaks Springs, Boulevard and Jacumba neighborhoods woke up with power. Others in East County haven't been so lucky. Residents without power say the outages happen every year, and they're frustrated. A local store owner in Live Oak Springs says he works hard all year to keep his store running, but the recent power outage will cost him almost a year's worth of earnings. "I lose business, I lose customers, now I lose all my stuff," says Sam Matthe. Matthe has been running the Live Oak Springs Market for four years. He says he's had power outages for the past two years, with some going on for days. Inside the store sits a large deli counter, freezers full of dairy items, produce, and a walk-in meat freezer in the back. Matthe says it's frustrating because he is on a different SDG&E circuit than others in the area. Just a mile north and south, those neighbors have power. "I don't know why. What's the difference?" says Matthe. "(It's) not too windy. They say its the wind, it's not; the wind it's normal."Matthe estimates he will lose more than ,000. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Police Department has opened an internal affairs investigation into a front desk officer's response in the aftermath of rapper Nipsey Hussle's murder.The department's Office of the Inspector General confirmed Monday an investigation was underway.Grand jury testimony shows the woman who drove the alleged shooter, Eric Holder, from the scene had gone to the 77th Street station because her car was on the news. She was turned away by a desk officer who told her not to worry about it.The woman was able to speak to detectives later. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - As COVID-19 cases surge, Covered California is urging uninsured residents to sign up for coverage by this Wednesday's deadline."Covered California is a critical safety net to help people get quality health care coverage during the surging pandemic and ongoing recession," said Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee. "With our first enrollment deadline coming up this week, we want to encourage anyone who needs coverage to check out their options and sign up so they can start the New Year with protection and peace of mind."Californians who want their coverage to start on Jan. 1 must sign up by Dec. 30, a deadline that was extended in response to the pandemic. However, the open enrollment period runs through Jan. 31. In either case, consumers will need to pay their first bill when enrolling.More than 1.2 million California residents are uninsured despite being eligible for financial help from Covered California or low-cost or no-cost coverage through Medi-Cal, according to Covered California."Most of the people who are uninsured either do not know they are eligible for financial assistance, or they have not checked recently to see how affordable quality coverage can be," Lee said. "No one should wait to sign up, and we are extending the deadline through Dec. 30 to give all of us more time to spread the word and make sure our family and friends have health insurance during this pandemic."Roughly nine out of 10 consumers who enroll through the Covered California marketplace receive either federal tax credits, state subsidies or both, helping to make health care more affordable. California subsidies benefit nearly 600,000 residents, including thousands who had previously been ineligible for financial help because they exceeded federal income limits.Of those eligible for subsidies, more than half are believed to be Latino, a group that has been disproportionately hard-hit by the pandemic.The average consumer receiving financial help with health insurance paid an average of 7 per month for coverage, with federal and state assistance reducing their costs by 4, according to Covered California.Covered California recently mailed masks to 1.5 million enrollees, and Lee urged every resident to use face coverings."Getting covered with a mask will help protect Californians and their families and friends; getting covered with a health plan will help protect people if they get sick," he said. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - On the day he was scheduled to meet with Los Angeles Police Department brass to discuss ways of stopping gang violence, rapper Nipsey Hussle was instead being mourned Monday by musicians, athletes and politicians.Hussle, 33, was gunned down in broad daylight around 3:20 p.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of West Slauson Avenue, in front of The Marathon Clothing store he founded in 2017 near Crenshaw Boulevard in South Los Angeles. Two other men were wounded in the shooting.Hussle had been scheduled to meet Monday with LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff -- a meeting Hussle had requested.``We were meeting at the request of (Hussle) with him and (Jay-Z's production company Roc Nation) ... to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids,'' Soboroff wrote on his Twitter page Sunday night. ``I'm so very sad.''Soboroff also wrote: ``RIP sir.
