PALM HARBOR, Fla. — They call it the Olympics of hair. Every two years top stylists from around the globe meet in a different country for the world championships. Due to the pandemic, this year’s event was canceled, so a salon in Palm Harbor, Florida decided to do their own internal competition.They aren’t just hairdos, they are works of art at Salon Bella Flora.“I kept getting the comments like, ‘Are you kidding me, this is awesome,'” said owner Flora Paskalakis Stoltz.Before Stoltz owned her own salon, she was traveling the world, cutting and combing hair, against the best of the best.“When you are at the world championships, it’s like being in a huge stadium and there’s hundreds of competitors competing at one time and it's intense,” said Stoltz.So as a way to boost staff morale during a difficult year, she decided to hold her own competition. The theme was fantasy.“Let's do something fun, let's get creative juices flowing, let's get inspired, let's get into teams and team work,” said Stoltz.For some of these stylists, it was their first time participating in this type of competition, while for others it was a trip down memory lane.“I was excited to get outside my comfort zone, try new things, do better, be better at what I do, it was really fun,” said Arianna Shuster.“I think it pumped us up, it kind of brought us all together, a few of us didn’t know each other very well so it gave us a chance to spend a lot of time together and learn from each other,” said Katherine Mahinis.They say the key to remember is there are no real rules.“We’re going to do Mother Nature the Root of All Evil, we didn’t go to Michaels and buy branches and leaves, we went to the yard and started picking up stuff,” said Denise RamikIn the end, all three teams were winners, gaining accolades virtually from renowned judges, opening the door to the world championships in Japan next year."I would love to, I wish I can join the team but we'll see," said Rovena Lulaj.This story originally reported by Robert Boyd on abcactionnews.com. 2047

PHILADELPHIA — Police shot and killed a 27-year-old Black man on a Philadelphia street after yelling at him to drop his knife, sparking violent protests that police said injured 30 officers and led to dozens of arrests.The shooting occurred Monday afternoon as officers responded to a call for a person with a weapon.Police spokesperson Tanya Little said officers who arrived ordered the man to drop the knife.Video of the fatal confrontation posted on social media shows officers pointing their guns at the man, later identified as Walter Wallace, 27.He walks toward the officers as they back away from him in the street, guns still aimed at him. Both officers then fired several times.One of the officers transported Wallace to a local hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, both officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting.Wallace's father, Walter Wallace Sr., told the Inquirer that his son suffered from "mental issues" and that police should not have resorted to gunfire.“Why didn’t they use a Taser? His mother was trying to defuse the situation,” Wallace Sr. told the Inquirer.Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said on Monday that video of the shooting raised "difficult questions," according to CNN. CNN also reports that Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has directed a police-controlled unit on officer-involved shootings to open an investigation."I have directed the Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Unit to begin its investigation," Outlaw said in a statement. "I recognize that the video of the incident raises many questions. Residents have my assurance that those questions will be fully addressed by the investigation."Hundreds of people took to the streets to protest the shooting late Monday into early Tuesday. Police and other law enforcement are constantly trying to stay ahead of criminals, but sometimes technology can get in the way.Apple made headlines a couple years back, when the company refused to unlock a phone when asked by law enforcement.Then came Grayshift, a company that specializes in cracking iPhones.  "Apple's fighting these guys pretty hard,” says digital security expert Steve Beaty. “Has been a bit of a chess game right."Beaty is a digital security expert professor with Metropolitan State University of Denver."It appears that people aren't now able to break into the iPhone with the most recent release of version 12 of iOS," Beaty explains.While Apple isn't saying much about what they've done, law enforcement around the country will have to scramble to find new ways to get into these devices.Beaty seems to think it's related to a small change in access by adding a USB restrict mode--that disables devices after a certain amount of time if it’s plugged into your phone."They can plug into iPhones, that historically in general, have what we call brute force them," Beaty explains.Brute forcing allows Grayshift to continue putting in passcodes until they find the right one. But because these external devices deactivate after about an hour, their process is interrupted. That's the main belief in how Apple is thwarting these devices.If you're worried about security, it's simple to activate USB restrict mode on your phone. There may be some other problems though you could run into charging issue."So, for the time being, I don't see it being more than a chess game that they are going to be advances made on either side,” says Beaty. “And I don't think there's going to be a definitive, if you will, checkmate in the foreseeable future." 1776

Police said four people were injured Wednesday in two separate knife attacks about 30 minutes apart in central Vienna, Austria.Three victims were injured in the first attack outside a restaurant near the Nestroyplatz subway station, a police spokesman told CNN. The victims were a couple and their daughter, CNN affiliate ORF reported.The fourth victim was injured in the second attack at Praterstern, a major city square, the spokesman said.Authorities are investigating whether the incidents are linked, the spokesman said.Police are still searching for the attacker or attackers, the spokesman said.Witnesses said they saw police swarming the area.Michael Eisenriegler, who lives next to where the stabbing happened, told CNN he saw flashing lights and went downstairs."There were maybe ... one or two dozen policemen (at the site of the attack.)
