A Dundalk couple says they’re trying to figure out who’s responsible after a carnival accident on Friday.A day at a carnival for David Nagel, his wife Stacy, and their 2-year-old grandson was going great until David and Levi were on board the carnival’s merry-go-round.“I grabbed my grandson,” David said. “Ran away from the [the carousel] and got my grandson over the fence to my wife, and then I went back to make sure that everybody else was ok because there was a young lady with two younger kids behind me.”Part of the merry-go-round collapsed with close to 40 people on or nearby.Stacy watched in horror, capturing the entire incident on her smartphone.“It was his first time ever on a merry-go-round. He’s two. He never wanted to get on before and we didn’t push him. He just wanted to get on the merry-go-round so we had to film it. Thank gosh we did,” she said.Firefighters along with ride inspectors worked on the ride for almost an hour.Then the ride went back into service – not against protocol according to state inspectors.The ride services’ owner, Shaw & Sons Amusements, says the state handles inspections.“A major breakdown is a stoppage of operation from any cause that results in damage, failure, or breakage of a structural or stress bearing part of an amusement attraction,” Matt Helminiak, the Commissioner of Labor and Industry – over the amusement ride and safety inspection division, said.By phone, he said if no one was injured or if there weren’t a major breakdown, the state wouldn’t even be alerted.The incident on Friday wasn’t enough to shut the ride down.Still, Helminiak says the state will look at what went wrong with the merry-go-round.“In the case of a mobile ride, every time that ride is set up, a state inspector inspects it before anybody is allowed to ride it, but the operators themselves have a daily inspection requirement and so they inspect it and keep a log of inspections and then have that available for us,” he said.An unsettling feeling for David, who says he wants to see a change in the inspection process, no matter if someone is injured.“I went, number one, to bring back memories and number two – to share joy. It was supposed to be a joyous time. A burly kangaroo whose buff physique shot him to internet fame has died at the age of 12."We have lost our beautiful boy, Roger," Chris Barnes, owner of the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Australia, announced on Saturday on Facebook.Roger, who was 6 foot 7 inches and weighed nearly 200 pounds in his prime, was rescued by Barnes as a joey after his mother was killed on a highway.In a video tribute to the marsupial, Barnes said he was inspired to set up the 188-acre sanctuary in Alice Springs to house the famous kangaroo and his growing harem of wives."I built it so they had a place to live," he said. Roger was the sanctuary's alpha male for many years, Barnes added. "He grew up to be a kangaroo that people from all over the world have grown to love as much as we love him too."Roger's death led to an outpouring of grief on social media. Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia called him "such a proud strong boy" in an Instagram post, while the Australian government's tourism agency described him as a "true icon."The beefcake kangaroo became an internet sensation in 2015, when a picture of him crushing a metal bucket with his bare paws went viral on social media."As a man kangaroo if you want to have a wife you are going to have to fight for her," Barnes told CNN at the time. A judge has decided a university was justified in moving an event by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro to a smaller venue for safety concerns, according to reports.Shapiro, a lawyer, former Breitbart editor and author of several books, was scheduled to speak at the University of Minnesota in February 2018.The group that requested Shapiro’s appearance, Students for a Conversative Voice, requested the use of a large, 1,000+ seat venue on the Minneapolis campus. However, University officials at the time decided the event needed to be held at a venue on the St. Paul campus that seats less than 500 people because of security concerns.The student group claimed in their lawsuit against the university the venue change resulted in limiting the number of people who could attend and denying them the ability to participate in the event.A judge on Friday threw out the lawsuit, according to the Pioneer Press, saying the university had legitimate safety concerns because of other incidents after Shapiro events on other campuses.Large crowds of protesters have appeared at Shapiro events, some resulting in arrests. A joint statement released by federal and state officials on Thursday described last week’s presidential election as the “most secure in American history” despite calls from President Donald Trump’s campaign that the election was “stolen.”The letter was signed by leaders of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the National Association of State Election Directors, among others.
