LA JOLLA (CNS) - A 31-year-old woman was hospitalized this morning with a fractured neck sustained in a two-vehicle crash at a La Jolla intersection.The woman was driving a 2015 Toyota Prius eastbound in the 8500 block of Whale Watch Way at 4:15 p.m. Friday when she ran a stop sign at Prestwick Drive and made a left turn where a 44-year-old man driving a 2018 Chevy Traverse northbound on Prestwick Drive broadsided the woman's car, according to Officer John Buttle with the San Diego Police Department.The woman was taken to a hospital with a fractured neck, police said. JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Health authorities are poised to declare the African continent free of the wild poliovirus after decades of effort. The declaration on Tuesday leaves Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan as the only countries thought to still have the wild poliovirus. "Today we are also celebrating another public health triumph: the eradication of wild poliovirus in Africa," said Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus with the World Health Organization. "This is an incredible achievement, and a much-needed cause for celebration."The World Health Organization says this is just the second time a virus has been eradicated in Africa, after smallpox four decades ago. However, the announcement doesn’t mean Africa is polio-free. Cases of vaccine-derived polio are still sparking outbreaks. KANSAS CITY, Mo. –- For two parents, welcoming three bundles of joy into the world last week was a one-in-a-million feeling. Statistically speaking, that’s not too far off. Identical triplets were born at Truman Medical Center Thursday to Nicole and Caleb Choge. Baby boys Ron, Elkanah, and Abishai were born just minutes apart and six weeks premature. By Sunday, the brothers were doing well under observation in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. According to doctors, it’s not uncommon for multiple births to come prematurely. What is uncommon is identical triplets. According to a study in the Journal of Biosocial Science, identical triplets occur only about 20 to 30 times per 1 million births. While the boys’ mother rested, new father Caleb Choge spoke with reporters Sunday. The couple, who have a 2-year-old son, was expecting another baby but were surprised when they saw the sonogram. “My wife and I and our son prayed for another child,” he said. “And then, I like to say, God answered everybody’s prayer: one, two and three.”Until recently, the couple lived in Kenya, Caleb Choge’s home country.
