A University of North Carolina study warns against the use of THC or CBD by women who are in the early stages of pregnancy. The study, which was published this week, tested the use of both synthetic and natural cannabinoids on mice. The results found that one-time exposure to cannabinoids early in a pregnancy can cause growth issues in a developing embryo. UNC said that this was the first time a study of this kind has been performed on mammals. Researchers said that they found the effects of CBD and THC are potentially very similar to what is seen in fetal alcohol syndrome. The researchers added that cannabinoid use disrupted signaling between molecules and cells that control growth and development. Researchers believe the results on mouse fetuses would be similar to human fetuses.“The development of the embryo in this time period is very similar across all vertebrates,” said Scott Parnell, a member of the UNC Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies. “In this study we also test a synthetic cannabinoid in zebrafish that yielded similar growth deformations as the natural CBs. Having the same results across animal models reinforces our findings.”The researchers administered enough CBD that is considered a therapeutic range for humans. The THC concentration was of similar levels to smoking marijuana. “It is concerning how little we know about the use of marijuana, its CBs, and products like CBD oil during pregnancy,” Parnell said. “We know that there is no safe period to drink alcohol during a pregnancy, and I think this research shows the same is likely true of marijuana use.”To read more on the study, click 1639
A Utah company is recalling two-pound frozen bags of Quest beef cat food sold nationwide over fears it may be contaminated with salmonella."Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products," the US 419

A new school year means tons of students are embarking on their first solo living experiences in college dorms around the country. But with that new responsibility comes great power — usually about 1100 watts of it.The Ball State University Police Department posted a hilarious reminder on their Facebook page telling students that the microwaves in their dorms do more than just warm snacks and reheat day-old coffee. They can also set off the fire alarms in the dorms."Every year starts with multiple fire alarms in Ball State Housing," Ball State Unviersity police posted on social media. "Most if not all of these fire alarms are preventable."They offered tips on how to heat up many college student staples, including Pop-Tarts, brownies, Kraft macaroni and cheese, oatmeal and popcorn.Pop-Tarts "must be removed from their aluminum foil prior to placing in the microwave," they wrote. "Microwave for 3 SECONDS not 3 minutes."They also gently reminded their Muncie, Indiana, students that brownies, mac and cheese and oatmeal usually need some kind of liquid added to them, whether it's milk or water. And, of course, they cited popcorn as the worst offender of setting off fire alarms unnecessarily. Students should "stay with your food," they said. "When you no longer hear the popping sound, stop the microwave. Overcooking causes scorching which causes fire alarms."Heed this warning, college kids. There's nothing more inconvenient than scorched food and an entire dorm of sleepy students glaring at you and your smoking popcorn. 1551

After Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Greenland is not for sale, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday evening that he will postpone an upcoming meeting between the two leaders, citing Frederiksen's comments as the reason. Trump said on Sunday that his meeting with Frederiksen was "not for this reason at all. But we're looking at it."But Trump's tweet goes against what he said on Sunday. "Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland," Trump tweeted, "I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time. The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct. I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!"Trump's interest in Greenland was revealed last week. The island, which is the world's largest by land area, has 55,000 residents. While Greenland is an autonomous nation for domestic issues, Denmark manages the island's foreign policy.Frederiksen 1162
