A San Diego Police flyer indicated he was prepared to meet friends and never arrived.Billingsly earned a degree in business administration and marketing from SDSU. He traveled to his native Sacramento and earned money for his return to San Diego, his mother Christel told 10News.Christel Billingsley said her son was looking for a job and wanted to save on rent. After June 1, he did not have a permanent address and started couch-surfing at friends’ homes in Pacific Beach.Wesley and his Ford Expedition disappeared June 12. “It’s completely out of character,” said his mother.Christel paid her son’s phone bill and described him as a social media junkie. About two months ago, the phone stopped showing activity.“Everything stopped on June 12. He just vanished off the face of this earth,” Christel said.Christel is employed as a school officer manager in Sacramento and recently returned to her job after summer break. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The doctor responsible for one third of vaccine exemptions in the San Diego Unified School District fired back Thursday at critics who say her science isn’t sound. Dr. Tara Zandvliet has a refrigerator full of vaccines at her office in South Park. She administers them to her young patients, but she also writes medical exemptions for some children. “It’s the kids that are sensitive that you need to just take a little bit different tack with,” said Zandvliet. Zandvliet wrote exemptions for 162 of the 487 children who provided SDUSD with a medical reason to avoid the vaccines required for entry. Despite the number, Zandvliet says she does not consider herself anti-vaccine. “I’m not gonna write a medical exemption just cause someone wants it. I’m not gonna write it or not write it just because the school says ‘hey we have too many of them’,” she said. Since California became one of three states to ban personal belief exemptions for vaccines, the number of medical exemptions has risen. So has the number of children being vaccinated. San Diego Unified officials issued a statement about the situation, saying in part the district "has noticed some physicians issuing exemptions that appear to be excessively frequent and based on criteria that are not aligned with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” Zandvliet’s website says she will grant an exemption based on factors like family history of allergies or autoimmune disease, neither of which are recognized by the Centers for Disease Control as valid reasons for exemption. “I refuse 7 out of ten; the three that come in they've convinced me they have proof they've given me medical records from family members and it’s there,” Zandvliet said. Other doctors disagree with Zandvliet’s reasoning, including State Senator Richard Pan, who is also a physician. He was behind the law to get rid of the personal belief exemption and is now trying to make it harder for parents to get a medical exemption. Starting October 1, 2020, U.S. residents will need a REAL ID to fly domestically or enter secure federal facilities and military bases. The new ID is the result of the 9/11 Commission's recommendation to establish standards for identity verification and security features. For veterans, a no frills way to work on your game."It's short, it's inexpensive, and it's well kept," Fred Leipold, an avid Loma Club golfer, told 10News.Lauren Gomez first played at the club when she was just a toddler. Now, she tees off with a scholarship to Pepperdine University in her back pocket. "I know a lot of kids come out here to practice. There's not a lot of golf courses around here, so it's really important to Point Loma," Gomez said.More than a century of history sits in the club's soil. At one time, a young Phil Mickelson played tournament at what was then called Sail Ho.Which is why players and locals were shocked to learn the Loma Club put out a notice that it will close in late December.Point Loma residents flooded social media following the news, worried that the same thing could happen in other nearby communities: Golf courses shutting down with plans to fill the land with housing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced new safety measures for its offices Thursday as the coronavirus pandemic continues across the state.Starting Thursday morning, every person who goes to a DMV location will get their temperature checked before they're allowed inside.Previously, only people getting in-car driving tests were subject to temperature checks.A DMV spokesperson told ABC 10News they'll follow CDC guidelines, only letting people inside if their temperature is below 100.4 degrees."We always follow the guidelines that are issued by the CDC," said DMV spokesperson Cynthia Moreno. "So, following their guidelines, we decided that it would be best to start taking the temperature of all of our customers and our employees to make sure that we follow the safety protocols."The temperature screening is in addition to safety measures already in place, which include mask requirements, social distancing, limited services available and hand-washing and sanitizing stations located throughout each field office.Because of all that, DMV officials say it's best to do as much as you can on the agency's website and avoid coming into the offices, if possible."We want to make sure the people who come to our offices feel safe," said Moreno.
