BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China leader Jia Qinglin Monday met a visiting Taiwan delegation, who had attended a ceremony last week in honor of Huangdi, the Yellow Emperor, on the Chinese mainland.Huangdi, a legendary hero who lived 4,000 years ago, is considered to be the common ancestor of all Chinese people. The ceremony was held on April 16, the third day of the third month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which is considered the birthday of Huangdi, at mausoleums in Xinzheng, central Henan Province, Huangdi's birth place.Jia, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told the delegation that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait were all Chinese and attending the ceremony showed they still loved the nation.Unification was always the trend of history, which could not be reversed by any force, said Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or the top political advisory body.He said people's concerted efforts on both sides had brought the situation across the Strait out of crisis, and achieved major breakthroughs in cross-Strait relations on the common ground that opposes "Taiwan independence" and adheres to the "1992 Consensus."Jia especially praised efforts of teachers and students of the Huangpu (Whampoa) Military Academy in fighting imperialist, warlords and Japanese invaders before the founding of New China, saying the school, which was established in 1924 and famous for its officer graduates, "greatly contributed to national unification and independence."He said the school's spirit should be continued to strengthen national identity across the Strait, promote exchanges, deepen political mutual trust and curb "Taiwan independence."

Hu said China hopes to work with France to maintain high-level exchanges and dialogue and consultations on major issues of common concern.Hu also suggested both sides boost pragmatic cooperation. He said in addition to cooperation in traditional fields, the two sides should actively promote cooperation in energy saving, environmental protection, new energy, agriculture and farm produce processing, and among small and medium size businesses to seek long-term, stable and reciprocal common development. The two countries should strengthen cultural exchanges, facilitate language education, two-way travel, and dialogue between each other's media and think tanks, Hu added. He said China and France are expected to together meet local and global challenges to achieve a peaceful and stable international environment, citing reform of the international financial system, improving the global economic governance structure and coping with climate change.Hu told the press conference he and Sarkozy agreed to keep in close consultation on global issues and to conduct active cooperation to solve international and regional disputes by peaceful means. He said the Chinese side sets a high value on the role the EU play in international affairs and appreciates the constructive stance taken by the French side in promoting China-EU relations. When meeting the press, Hu noted France is the initiator of the reform of the global economic governance mechanism.Hu added China supports France's holding of next year's G20 summit.France will hold the presidency of the G20 summit this November and host the 2011 summit.Sarkozy said France is willing to work closely with China to ensure a successful summit. He said that China is a very important strategic partner of France and they both need to cooperate closely on major global issues such as pushing economic growth, and maintaining world peace. He said there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan and Tibet are both part of China. TOKYO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here on Tuesday both China and Japan should take the road of peaceful development. The peoples of the two countries should promote mutual understanding, trust and cooperation between them, Wen said in an interview with the Japanese public broadcaster NHK."Japan's pacifist constitution adopted after World War II stipulates that Japan should follow the road of peaceful development, which has brought tangible benefits to Japan in terms of rapid economic growth and greatly improved standards of living for the Japanese people," Wen said.Speaking of China's tremendous social and economic progress since the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy more than 30 year ago, he said China will stick to the path of peaceful and harmonious development."Both China and Japan should take the road of peaceful development. Therefore, both the Chinese and Japanese peoples should understand and trust each other and cooperate with each other," he said. The reason why China attaches so much importance to taking history as a mirror and looking into the future is by no means intended to perpetuate hatred, but to promote the feelings and friendship between the two peoples and to prevent a repeat of the past tragedy, Wen said.He called on the leaders, news media and the academic circles of both countries to play their part in facilitating the exchange of thoughts and the friendship between the two peoples and promote their mutual understanding.
