SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego student Emily Benkes says her mother has lived in their Carmel Mountain home for 32 years, never once feeling unsafe in the neighborhood.Tuesday, Benkes came home to a ransacked house. “We had our laptops out, I had some money on my desk, Xbox was gone, my Apple TV,” said Benkes. Benkes believes the person hopped their backyard fence, coming in from a nearby trail. Food was missing from the fridge, including a package of salami which they later found on the trail. The suspect entered the home by throwing a rock through the back window and climbing in. “I felt really violated, I couldn’t even go in my room just because I kept thinking that there was somebody in here going through my stuff,” Benkes.She posted what happened on Nextdoor, and now neighbors are trying to help; one neighbor believes their surveillance video captured someone hopping the fence. “I hope we catch this person and nobody else has this happen to them,” said Benkes. The 57-year-old victim was walking to her car in the west parking lot near JCPenney Monday at 1:45 p.m. when the man approached her from behind, police said. The man put a knife to the woman’s neck and demanded her car keys and wallet. Officers said she turned over the items, at which point the man got into her 2017 white Nissan Sentra and drove away. The Sentra was later recovered, according to police. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Students at an East San Diego school will meet Thursday to decide how to honor two classmates murdered in Tijuana this month.Christopher Alexis Gomez, a 17-year-old senior at O'Farrell Charter School in Encanto, and 18-year-old Juan Suarez-Ojeda, who graduated from the same school last year, were found shot to death in Tijuana on Nov. 25. Gomez's cousin, Katheryn Garcia, told 10News Wednesday that the two teens were likely tortured in different locations before being killed execution-style and left in front of the Lomas Verdes housing complex.Another teen believed to be Ojeda's friend was also killed.Students at O'Farrell Charter are set to meet with school officials Thursday to decide how to honor their two classmates. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven people are dead after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria linked to black tar heroin use in San Diego.County health officials said nine people who injected black tar heroin were admitted to county hospitals between Oct. 2 and Nov. 24 with a bacterial infection called myonecrosis, which is a severe soft tissue infection that destroys muscle. Of those victims, seven have died.
