CORONADO, Calif. -- A distracted school bus driver is being blamed for a chain-reaction crash that injured students on their way home.According to the CHP, just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, a bus carrying about 50 Coronado Middle School students rear-ended a truck that was stopped at a light, which hit another truck.Afterwards, Coronado's police chief and other officers handed out water because the bus was stuffy.There were no serious injuries, but six or seven students did complain of some pain. It's unclear how many were taken to the hospital.The CHP says the preliminary cause is unsafe speed. The driver - in his sixties - claims he was distracted by something going on with the students.10News reached out to the school district to find out if the driver will face a suspension, but have yet to hear back. 826
CUPERTINO, Calif. – Apple announced Tuesday that it has committed to becoming 100% carbon neutral across its entire business by 2030.The tech company says its corporate operations are already carbon neutral, but now it plans for its supply chain and product life cycle to be too.The new commitment means that by 2030, every Apple device sold will have net zero climate impact, the company said.Apple also released a report Tuesday, detailing its plans to reduce its emissions by 75% by 2030 while developing innovative carbon removal solutions for the remaining 25% of its comprehensive footprint.Apple released a “Climate Roadmap” it will follow as it seeks to lower emissions.Some key points of the plan include increasing the use of low carbon and recycled materials in its products, lowering energy use at its facilities, relying solely on renewable energy, tackling emissions through technological improvements, and investing in forests and other nature-based solutions to remove carbon from the atmosphere.To support its efforts, Apple says it’s establishing an “Impact Accelerator,” which will focus on investing in minority-owned businesses that drive positive outcomes in its supply chain and in communities that are disproportionately affected by environmental hazards.“Businesses have a profound opportunity to help build a more sustainable future, one born of our common concern for the planet we share,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The innovations powering our environmental journey are not only good for the planet — they’ve helped us make our products more energy efficient and bring new sources of clean energy online around the world. COSTA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Korean-made vehicles rank at the top of the list for quality in 2019 while many other brands haven't improved, according to a new report by J.D. Power. The report also found that problems with driver assistance systems are increasing as the advance systems become more common. Overall, the highest-ranking brands include Genesis, Kia and Hyundai, which are all produced by Korean manufacturer Hyundai Motor Group. Domestic brands like Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Dodge and Buick all performed better than the industry average, but overall are close to the average as far as quality. According to the report, all European brands fell below average for quality, especially falling behind in infotainment and electronic categories. If you’re hoping to splurge, the Porsche 911 has the best score of any model for the second year in a row.“Automakers continue to make progress in areas like infotainment that attract a lot of consumer attention,” said Dave Sargent, Vice President of Global Automotive at J.D. Power. “However, some traditional problems crept up this year including paint imperfections, brake and suspension noises, engines not starting and the ‘check engine’ light coming on early in the ownership experience. They really make it easy,” Leanne Smith said.Smith is from Solon and knows how stores can tempt you with their credit cards, but she’s sticking to her Target Red Card for now.“I don’t think it’s a responsible thing for me to have one at every store,” she said.Tedd Rossman from CreditCards.com said that if you ever plan on carrying a balance, store cards aren’t going to be the best option for you.“While sometimes these store cards can work for you, most of the time, they’re not the most consumer-friendly option,” Rossman said.That’s because Rossman says the average store credit card has an interest rate of 25%, some as high as 29.99% such as Discount Tire, Big Lots and jewelry store cards like Kay Jewelers.“These cards are not as selective about credit quality, which is why the retailers and their bank partners say they have to charge such high-interest rates,” Rossman said.CreditCardInsider.com recently rated various popular store cards based on various things like interest rates.Here are those results:Target - 24.4%Old navy - almost 26% (25.99%)Walmart - roughly 18-27% (17.99%-26.99%) interestNathan Grant from CreditCardInsider.com said you shouldn’t just sign-up at the checkout on a whim even if there’s a discount offered or cashback incentives.“The percentage of interest you’re paying might end up calculating to be more than what you got from spending on the cards,” Grant said.According to Grant, some of the better retailer cards are:Amazon prime cards with lower interest rates—5% back on Amazon purchases and gift cards when you sign up. (KGTV) - This weekend's stormy weather grounded, then destroyed a 75-foot Russian-built racing boat once sent to San Diego to race in the America's Cup.Around 7 a.m. Saturday, cellphone video show the large sailboat as it ran aground. Not long after, Lifeguard Captain Sean Casey says the waves went to work."Once it was aground, pretty quickly the mast broke off, and the boat literally broke into two pieces," said Casey.Casey says the boat had been anchored more than two miles away, near the Zuniga Jetty in Point Loma."There were high winds and rough conditions out of Point Loma. Assuming the anchor line just broke," said Casey.The boat was named Age Of Russia.According to a 1992 Los Angeles Times story, it was built in Leningrad for six million rubles. Under current conversion rates, six million rubles is valued at about ,000.A Russian group of yachtmen sent the boat to San Diego in 1992 to compete in the America's Cup, but that group was never sanctioned by race officials to compete. Because the group couldn't afford to bring it back, the boat was slated to taken to be taken to the Miramar Landfill and flattened. But then a buyer came forward.Casey says recently, it had been used for tours of the bay, before its final, unscheduled trip Saturday. Its frantic owner ended up at the beach."Obviously his reaction was sort of shock and dismay. He was very upset when he saw it on the beach," said Casey.Casey says the boat was insured, which means the cleanup costs could be covered."The contractor will likely have to use heavy equipment, dump trucks, to break up the remaining pieces and take it to the landfill," said Casey.Casey says there is an ongoing problem of boats without slips on the bay, being anchored in the Zuniga Jetty, and becoming loose during stormy weather. In 2019, the City Council amended San Diego’s Municipal Code to restrict open-water boat anchoring near Zuniga Jetty Shoal to two hours. 1960
