SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. McNett was arrested and booked into jail. 764

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A growing group in San Diego is flipping the script on those who fight dense development in their own backyards.They're calling themselves the 'YIMBY' Democrats. YIMBY for "yes in my backyard." Their solution is for more dense development in urban areas where people can live and work. They also seek legislative reform and developments that help combat climate change."It's basic supply and demand," said member Dike Anyiwo. "The more sort of inventory that we're able to produce and build and create, then it stands to reason that prices should go down."RELATED: MISD: Granny flat permits soarTheir ideas appear to be gaining traction. The city recently passed Mayor Kevin Faulconer's plan eliminating parking requirements near transit centers. And the YIMBYs are getting visits from some key politicians, including Assemblyman Todd Gloria, City Councilmembers Monica Montgomery and Chris Ward, and County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. Plus, some of its members are now landing spots on city planning groups. Anyiwo is now on the Midway Pacific Highway Community Planning Group. Still, concerns remain that the YIMBY plans could lead to too much crowding for the city's infrastructure. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after San Diego Police say he threatened an employee and vandalized a downtown office building. According to police, the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. at the Mills Building on Imperial Avenue downtown. The building houses San Diego County government offices. Police say the man threatened an employee on the 5th floor of the building before damaging computer monitors in the office. RELATED: Temecula police investigating reports of man brandishing a gun during youth soccer tournamentA building employee was able to handcuff the man, restraining him until police arrived. The suspect was arrested for vandalism and battery. At this time, it’s unclear how the suspect got into the building. 743

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A non-profit that drives sick kids and their families to the hospital is celebrating one million miles.Climbing into an Emilio Nares Foundation car, mom Latoya Johnson and her 19-year-old daughter Tay Tay started recalling the memories over the last decade. They were one of ENF's first rides. The non-profit was founded in 2003 and began giving rides in August 2005, according to ENF Vice President of Programs Luz Quiroga. The program expanded from San Diego to Orange County in 2009. Rides started in the Imperial Valley in 2015, and expanded again to San Bernardino, Riverside, and South Los Angeles in 2019.The founders lost their son, Emilio, when he was 6 years old to leukemia. During the exhausting hours of treatment, Emilio's parents realized other families didn't have enough support. When Emilio passed, they turned his loss into a legacy.Johnson said Tay Tay was first diagnosed with a tumor the size of a golf ball in her chest when she was 4-and-a-half years old."It was behind her left lung, it was growing attached to her lung," Johnson said. She found it hard to get to doctor's appointments and treatment. 'It was about three buses, two trolleys and a bus on the other side,' Johnson said. The trip took two and a half hours, then they had to walk up a hill to get to Rady Children's Hospital.In the doctor's office she saw a flier for the Emilio Nares Foundation, and they have been getting picked up ever since, shortening their trip to a half-hour door-to-door.Once they kicked the tumor in Tay Tay's chest, they found out when Tay Tay was 15 that she had a brain tumor. "She's 19 years old now, so she literally is a walking blessing, a walking miracle, and I wouldn't trade her for nothing in the world," Johnson said smiling, pinching her daughter's cheek.Johnson said without the foundation she would have been in tears and they absolutely saved her daughter's life.With the foundation celebrating one million miles, Johnson is working on understanding the impact the foundation had not only on their lives, but on 4,000 children."I wanna cry, because I know I'm crying but the tears won't come out because they're all on the inside, but it's amazing. I'm just happy and blessed for you guys," Johnson said hugging CEO Karen Terra.She hopes telling her story will get more families the help they need.ENF kicked off their "Ride with Emilio" campaign Monday and it continues through the end of the month. The goal is to raise awareness for families who need this service as well as the funds to keep it going (donations are being accepted here.) 2598
