SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- City Council members Friday announced a plan to push for a temporary shelter for the homeless in Murphy Canyon.Council members Lorie Zapf and David Alvarez will hold a news conference Monday to request that a shelter be built at the former Chargers training facility.The complex, owned by the city, has remained unused since the Chargers moved to Los Angeles and will likely remain vacant for several more years.Announcing the press conference, the councilmembers said, “The San Diego River has seen an explosion of homeless encampments this year. This is an environmental nightmare and extremely dangerous with the rainy season rapidly approaching.”More than 100 homeless encampments were counted by volunteers with the San Diego River Park Foundation in October. 792

In this morning, she walked out to a surreal scene.Five stickers — most of them backing Sanders and purchased at local 2016 rallies — were gone. According to the Anti-Defamation League, some extremist groups have used the 13-star flag, but it remains a historical flag mainly used for patriotic purposes.According to the homeowner, in the past three years, more than two dozen flags, signs, and banners supporting President Trump have disappeared or been vandalized, some even burned.Those type of acts are condemned by a backer of a different candidate. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Days after Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new law aimed at child sex abuse, three San Diego women came forward to announce a lawsuit against the Diocese of San Diego. The three women say they were abused by Monsignor Gregory Sheridan as children. Sheridan worked in this diocese for 35 years and is on the diocese’s list of credibly accused abusive priests. This new measure gives survivors of childhood sexual assault, regardless of their age, a three-year “window” to bring a civil lawsuit against any perpetrator and employer or third party that was aware of misconduct that created a risk of childhood sexual assault. The new law also extends the statute of limitations for survivors of childhood sexual assault, giving survivors more time to file civil lawsuits: up to their 40th birthday (previously their 26th birthday) or within five years (previously three years) from the date of discovery of an adult psychological injury caused by the childhood sexual assault. One of the victims told 10News, "It doesn’t mean you don’t love God, doesn’t mean you don’t support your church, it means this priest was a bad apple."10News reached out to the Diocese of San Diego and they sent a statement that reads in part, "There is no crime or sin worse than a priest abusing the young people he is sworn to serve and protect. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City officials hope to get the construction process for a proposed downtown park, aimed at being an anchor for San Diego's East Village, off the ground this summer.The proposed 4.1-acre, million East Village Green will sit between F and G Streets stretching from 13th St. to 15th St. The massive stretch of green space in the heart of downtown San Diego will feature an 11,000-square-foot multi-use lawn, plaza and fountain areas, children's garden, 14,200-square-foot community center, dog parks, and room for food facilities, according to development plans.RELATED: Officials to break ground on county's first bike skills park in South BayThe green would also include an underground parking structure for 200 vehicles. "The City will be maintaining and programming East Village Green, and Civic [San Diego] hopes to start the bid solicitation process in late summer," according to Kimberly Moore with Civic San Diego. Plans show an additional multi-use lawn, children's garden, and casual park space in the park's future. Part of the construction process will also involve restoring nearby historic homes, which sit at the corner of F and 15th Streets.
