(KGTV) - A group of Massachusetts police officers and firefighters are being hailed as heroes after coming to the aid of a choking puppy this week.North Reading resident Megan Vitale stormed into a police station Sunday telling officers her 9-week-old Saint Bernard puppy, Bodhi, was choking on food. An acquaintance came running in with Bodhi shortly after, the puppy limp and unresponsive in his arms, surveillance footage from the station showed.A group of officers came running out to begin administering first aid to the puppy. A group of North Reading firefighters also arrived at the station to help with back blows and chest compressions. Even though we are not faced with this kind of incident every day, the officers reacted just as they would in any emergency situation," North Reading Police Chief Murphy said. “We are hopeful that the puppy will make a full recovery."Firefighters used a special oxygen tank designed for pets to help Bodhi get breathing again."Many of our firefighters have pets at home in their own families. We do not get to choose the emergency situation that comes our way, so it is important that first responders be prepared for anything," Fire Chief Stats said.Bodhi was able to leave with Vitale to receive follow-up care from a veterinarian, according to the police department. 1599
(KGTV) - A Disney cruise ship employee was sentenced Tuesday to 15 months in prison for wire fraud in an effort to embezzle the Walt Disney Company out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.Renan Dias Da Rocha Gomes, 32, who worked aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship, admitted to accessing an online payment system while working as a merchandise host in stores aboard the ship.Gomes said he made about 0,000 in unauthorized charges to Disney's bank account and loaded the money onto Disney gift cards.RELATED: Ex-Disney Cruise worker accused of embezzling over 5K from DisneyWhile investigating Gomes' cabin on the cruise ship, officials said they found 217 gift cards, a stolen watch, and ,240 in cash. He also admitted to spending about ,700 of the embezzled funds by taking his family on a Disney World vacation, spending thousands on lodging, food, drinks, entertainment, and merchandise.Gomes was arrested in San Diego on Oct. 27, 2017. He will have to pay Walt Disney restitution in the amount he stole and forfeit the watch and cash seized upon his arrest, officials said.Gomes, a Brazilian national, was working on the ship with a temporary visa. Due to the conviction, his visa was canceled and he will be deported back to Brazil at the end of his sentence. 1290

(KGTV) — At least 50,000 people were ordered to evacuate as multiple fires burned north of Los Angeles Thursday amid dangerously dry and windy conditions.The Tick Fire started about 2 p.m. in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita and spread east to Agua Dulce. Cal Fire reported about 8:30 p.m. the fire had spread to 3,950 acres. Several structures were lost. As of 6:20 p.m., firefighters had slowed the fire's progress.Mandatory Tick Fire evacuations are in effect for all residents north of 14 freeway, east of Whites/Plum Canyon, south of Vasquez Canyon, west of Agua Dolce.
