"If a city or state refuses to take the actions necessary to defend the life and property of the residents, I will deploy the united states military, and quickly solve the problem for them," Trump said.A different act, the Posse Comitatus Act, limits how the president can use the U.S. military for domestic purposes, and states would have to request the president to send in the U.S. military. The act hasn't been used often in U.S. history. President John F. Kennedy invoked the act to enforce civil rights laws in the South, and President George H.W. Bush invoked the act in 1992 for the Los Angeles riots in response to the Rodney King beating at California's request.During a press briefing at the White House, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Trump still has confidence in Esper, and said Trump was not aware of Esper's stance on the Insurrection Act prior to his announcement on Monday. This story was originally published by Max White on 960

"There was an isolated incident at our school involving a teacher and a student. At this time, there is an active police investigation and we are fully cooperating with local police. The teacher was immediately terminated and no longer employed at our preschool. We are working to make sure that this type of incident doesn't happen again and we are fully committed to keeping your children safe while they are in our care. Thank you for your support." 460

You can go to school for just about anything these days and that includes Santa School! Mark Gebhart is a sound engineer, but during the holidays, he’s Santa Clause. “It’s a feeling of service I get to give to people,” Gebhart says. “It’s like ingrained in my being. It’s something I have to do.”To become the best Santa, and to get better pay to play Santa, Gebhart went to Santa School.“It’s really intense,” he says. “We learn a lot and we learn how to be Santa Claus.”In Santa School, it’s not all about makeup, reindeer and practicing your “Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas!” The classes involved much more, including learning about child psychology, undergoing active shooting training and understanding what to do if there’s an unruly crowd. The Santa Claus performers began school in January, and it takes 9 months to graduate. “We are each others’ brothers,” Gebhart says of his fellow Santas. “We help each other, we study together, we work together; we are really a brotherhood.”When the Santas graduate, they take an oath and are given a diploma for all their hard work. They have three months to land a job, whether at the mall, private parties or corporate events.“I actually have an agent that I go through, and my agent gets me jobs,” Gebhart says. “Other Santas use things like 1301

"No Irish Pub," which opened in Corktown during Detroit's St. Patrick's Day parade, has implemented a shocking rule to make a point. The pub refuses to serve Irish people. Those behind the idea want people to experience how Irish immigrants used to be treated in America. It's described as a social experiment designed to start a conversation around immigrant rights.View a video below:No Irish Pub from Atlas Industries on Vimeo. For more information, visit NoIrishPub.com 477

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."While it isn’t the official U.S. Postal Service motto, it’s something mailwoman Amy Bezerra has kept to for the past 25 years. And now, we can add COVID-19 to that list of things that postal workers press through.Bezerra is one of almost half a million mail carriers for the USPS, and for the last eight of those years, she’s had the same route just north of Denver, Colorado."My max is usually six years and then I’m like, 'Eh, it’s time to move on and learn a different area.' Which is really hard, because you get close to your customers," said Bezerra. But because of COVID-19, the part of her job she loves the most has now changed."My customers, being outside, being able to involve yourself with other people, giving customer service to a wide variety of people," said Bezerra. "I don’t see near as many people. Your customers, if they do come out, it’s very rare anymore."People are ordering things now more than ever."A lot of people are not going out to stores purchasing. They’re staying at home and doing it on the computer, which gives us more parcels, which is awesome," said Bezerra. It’s deemed an essential public service, critical to the nation’s infrastructure, and critical to so many lives. However, the carriers also provide a service that many wouldn’t think."You get to know the people, the kids, the pets who should be around in the neighborhood, who shouldn’t, and people’s schedules," said Bezerra. So, a few years ago, when one of her customers didn’t pick up his mail for a few days, she knew something was wrong. She called for help."He had just been real sick and completely dehydrated. But every time he’d get up, he’d pass out and hit his head," said Bezerra. The ER doctors said he wouldn’t have made it 24 hours."I have five more years, and I have really bonded with these people out here. I’ve pretty much promised them, unless the post office takes it away from me, I’m here for five more years with them," said Bezerra. So, snow, rain, heat, gloom of night, nor COVID-19 will stop Bezerra from delivering to her customers. 2188
