SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The South Park neighborhood has a new ornament for the holiday season, which residents hope will become a permanent addition.The South Park Business Group recently installed a new sign of the community's name on top of a building at the end of Fern Street."It gives people a little more of a talking point," says Tanya McAnear, who owns Bad Madge and Company nearby. "Having a branded neighborhood helps when you're on social media."The sign is part of this year's Holiday Walkabout Luminaria event on December 7. But people in the neighborhood hope the business group keeps it up as a permanent addition."I'd like to see it stay for a long time," says Wayne Prunkard, who has lived in South Park for 20 years. "It gives an atmosphere to the neighborhood, and I really like it."People in South Park have been clamoring for a sign like this for years, one that can help identify the area in the same way signs in University Heights, Normal Park, North Park, Hillcrest, Kensington, Barrio Logan, and Gaslamp do.The South Park Business Group paid for the sign. Organizers say they're looking into a way to make it permanent."It makes you stand out. It makes you unique," says Grace Gerber, the manager of Native Poppy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The woman accused of running over her neighbor during a domestic dispute in Chollas View pleaded not guilty Friday. San Diego Police said Tantrina Spencer-Simmons, 24, was beating her 8-year-old sister with a belt on the 200 block of 47th Street Wednesday. Spencer-Simmons’ 50-year-old neighbor, James Shank, tried to stop her but she put the girl in her SUV. 10News spoke to Shank's wife, Zena Salsbury at her home before the arraignment. She said the incident started when she witnessed her downstairs neighbor, Spencer-Simmons beating her little sister with a belt. As a double amputee, Salsbury could not go downstairs to stop it so she asked her husband to make sure the girl was safe. Salsbury said Spencer-Simmons hit Shank with her car and ran over him before driving away. "You can literally see as the victim is basically cast out from behind the car, the car lurches over and drives off," Erickson said. "She doesn't stop, doesn't hesitate, and literally takes off."Salsbury told 10News her husband now has a broken nose, shattered pelvis, punctured lung, and may need his arm amputated. He is still sedated, undergoing several more surgeries this week. Erickson said Spencer-Simmons turned herself in and was arrested on Market Street. Her bail was set at million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The trial for a former San Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct while wearing his uniform began Monday in Vista.More than a dozen women claim Deputy Richard Fischer made unwanted advances."I think he's a bad guy," a San Marcos woman, who filed ,000,000 claim against the County, said.She said in August of 2017 two sheriff's deputies knocked on her door in the middle of the night for a welfare check. There was no problem and they left but she said Fischer returned alone an hour later, saying he needed to use her restroom; then told her she was cute and hugged her, several times."I was stunned shocked, it was very fast and confusing...I felt very vulnerable, intimidated, felt weak. I felt little." She said, next to tears. "It's just a mess! Everything is a mess! This is hard to do. He shouldn't have come back to my house and I don't ... Everything's a mess!"Similar instances were described by other women. In October of 2017, near the entryway of a 64-year-old woman's condo, Fischer took her report for a domestic violence incident and then made his move."His hands went all the way down to her butt and he squeezed both of her buttocks... he took her hand and pulled it down to his groin area," Lawyer Dan Gilleon said. He represents several women who filed claims against Fischer.Gilleon made a theme apparent, "he knows that she's alone, and she's vulnerable, and she's scared." Another victim called him a predator.Some women who came forward claim Fischer became more brazen, forcing sexual acts.Wednesday a plea deal fell through. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The trial of the Navy veteran accused of stabbing his wife, then dumping her body into the San Diego Bay, got underway today at San Diego Superior Court. Matthew Sullivan sat quietly next to his lawyers, nearly four years after the gruesome discovery of his wife, 32-year-old Elizabeth Sullivan. "She said, 'Hold on a sec.' And then she said 'I got to go,' quietly, and I didn't hear from her anymore," Calandra Harris said while wiping her tears. Harris described herself as Elizabeth's best friend. The two met while working together at Hampton University in Virginia. She said the last conversation she ever had with Elizabeth was on the day before she went missing in October 2014. Despite living on opposite coasts, Harris said she and Elizabeth talked every day. Harris said Elizabeth often consulted her about her tumultuous marriage with her husband. Both husband and wife filed domestic violence charges against each other, and the couple slept in separate rooms in the same Liberty Station home. So when Elizabeth went missing, Harris said she was worried, especially when she saw Sullivan's new Facebook post. "I noticed that he posted that he was in a relationship with Kay Taylor," Harris testified. "And when did you see that?" Deputy District Attorney Jill Lindberg asked. "Less than 30 days after and Liz was missing," Harris said. In October 2016, on the same day that Matthew was moving to Maryland with his new girlfriend and children, Elizabeth's decomposed body was discovered floating in the San Diego Bay. At this time, Matthew was not a suspect. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This week the Honor Flight family is saying goodbye to beloved family member Arthur Smith, a World War II Veteran and the inspiration behind San Diego's Honor Flight chapter.Back in 2009, Arthur and his son Dave went to Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight Network.
