As of Tuesday, the Hollywood sign came down, making room for the casino’s new name, which is simply Jamul Casino.In March, it was announced that the Jamul Indian Village Development Corporation would take over management of the casino. The 0 million casino was previously managed by Penn National Gaming.The casino put out a statement Tuesday saying the casino will not only have a new name, but a new look. JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) — Four people were arrested after a 14-year-old was caught smuggling crystal meth through an East County checkpoint.The boy had three bundles of methamphetamine strapped to his body underneath his clothing as he traveled through a State Route 94 checkpoint on Monday night, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. A border K9 patrol of the vehicle during questioning alerted agents to the narcotics.During questioning of the 14-year-old and three other people in the vehicle, a second inspection with K9s was performed. The agents says they found three backpacks in the rear of the vehicle, containing 49 plastic-wrapped packages. The backpacks contained about 50 pounds of methamphetamine.The driver, a 34-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested along with a 16-year-old US citizen and two Mexican national ages 14 and 16. Border agents seized the vehicle and turned over the narcotics and individuals to officers with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force.Since Oct. 1, 2019, San Diego Sector CBP says it has seized nearly 1,100 pounds of meth worth nearly .1 million on the street. 1135
JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) - A stretch of Highway 94 where a Border Patrol agent died is now dedicated in his name. Jarod Dittman was killed near the 8.5 mile marker on Otay Lakes Road in Jamul in March 2008. He was driving to his assigned patrol route when he rolled over. Dittman had been working with the Border Patrol for one year. On Monday, Dittman’s family and Border Patrol agents mounted two memorial signs. They also gathered at Eastlake Church for prayers and remembrance. “Thank you for never leaving my side,” said Dittman’s widow as she spoke to her late husband’s Border Patrol colleagues. Agent Dittman was 28 years old when he died. He is survived by his wife and daughter. 692
