LAS VEGAS (KGTV) -- Friends of a San Diego pilot killed in a Las Vegas plane crash in late October said he had years of experience.Friends identified the pilot as Robert Golo. The passenger, 35-year-old Tyrone Calabar, was also killed.“It was kind of a shock to everybody. We still can’t believe it,” said fellow pilot and Golo’s friend, Flynn Ortiz. “He was so well known and so well respected.”On the morning of October 29th, the plane crashed near Raven Avenue, several miles southwest of the Las Vegas strip. Witnesses told the Clark County Fire Department they saw the plane flying low before hearing the crash. The plane was supposed to be heading back to Gillespie Field.Ortiz said he and Golo’s planes were parked next to each other at Gillespie Field. “I’ve known him for a couple years. I’ve flown with him quite a bit,” Ortiz said.Ortiz said because of his charter license, Golo was under more scrutiny and underwent more inspections. “He owned the airplane that was involved in the accident, another twin-engine airplane, and a small jet. He was very well experienced.”According to Golo’s LinkedIn page, he had operated Air Charter Express since the late 1980s.Both the NTSB and the FAA are investigating. A preliminary report is set to be released in the upcoming days. The official cause of the accident likely will not come for at least a year, according to the NTSB. 1388

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a runaway trailer crashing into a parked SUV in Lakeside before the truck hauling it took off.A few minutes past 7 a.m. on Saturday off Julian Avenue, Melissa Heiner heard the crash."We were in bed and heard a loud big thud. Instantly, a car alarm went off," said Heiner.Heiner and her husband ran out and found their SUV undamaged. It was not the same story next door.RELATED: Family to move out of Point Loma home after latest car crash"Just sickening," said Heiner.Surveillance video from her neighbor's home shows a white pickup truck driving down the street, hauling a long trailer. When it turns right, the trailer becomes unhitched and goes straight into driveway. It spears the front corner of a Toyota 4Runner, as the trailer's load flies off from the collision. The truck briefly pauses before driving off."It's sad to see someone would leave it and not care, just assuming someone else would take of their own problems," said Heiner. The debris left in the driveway was part of an old boat.RELATED: SUV crashes into Otay Mesa home, driver arrested on suspicion of DUI"There were life vests ... the bottom half of the boat ... old and rotted," said Heiner. The result of this crash was about ,5000 in damage to the SUV. There was some minor damage to the front of the home.Heiner says her neighbor was just grateful she had left her other vehicle, usually parked next to the SUV, at work. "She's taking in stride. Just fortunate the damage wasn't worse and no one was hurt," said Heiner. The truck appears to be a newer model pickup, possibly a Dodge. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lakeside Sheriff's Substation at 619-938-1360. 1715

Legislation requiring shoppers to wear masks in New Jersey stores is one step closer to becoming law.A bill proposed by state Democratic lawmakers got the stamp of approval from a New Jersey Assembly committee Thursday. If passed, customers could be fined between and 0 for being in a business without a mask that covers the nose and mouth. The bill would apply to any store that has posted signage saying masks are required.Assembly Democrats who backed the bill called the legislation "a matter of life and death" and said there needs to be a penalty for those who don't do their part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.Republican lawmakers called the bill ludicrous and an attack on residents' civil liberties. Some suggested a better policy would be for businesses to refuse to serve customers who choose not to wear masks.Hoboken, New Jersey tried to pass a similar mask ordinance in August, attempting to fine people 0 for not wearing a mask in any place where social distancing was not possible. It ultimately did not pass.In New York City, MTA riders can now be fined for refusing to wear a mask on buses, subways and trains. As of midnight in Connecticut, anyone can now be fined 0 for violating mask and social distancing orders. Gov. Ned Lamont, a Democrat, signed an executive order implementing the policy just two days ago.If the New Jersey bill is passed into law, it would be in effect until the state's public health emergency and state of emergency are over. The bill now moves to the Assembly speaker for additional consideration. This story was originally published by Katie Corrado on WPIX in New York. 1649
