A helicopter prepares to drop water at a wildfire in Yucaipa, Calif., Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020. Three fast-spreading California wildfires sent people fleeing Saturday, with one trapping campers at a reservoir in the Sierra National Forest, as a brutal heat wave pushed temperatures into triple digits in many parts of state. A man picking up passersby flagging him and his buggy down for a ride is calling his service "Amish Uber."The service is not affiliated with the actual Uber ride-sharing service, but it has been popular in the town of Colon, Michigan, where driver Timothy Hochstedler is using a horse and buggy to cart folks around.Hochstedler has a sign on his buggy that says each ride is and he was offering rides during the town's recent  81st annual Abbott's Magic Get Together festival.WWMT television station talked with people who paid for rises in the buggy, and they said the experience was unique and fun. 626

A high-ranking Transportation Security Administration official says the agency is falling short when it comes to protecting airport screeners and the public from the new coronavirus while at the country's airports, according to published reports. The Officer of Special Counsel, a federal office that handles whistleblower complaints, has ordered an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security. The whistleblower's charges were reported by the Washington Post and National Public Radio. Several publications identify the whistleblower as TSA Federal Security Director Jay Brainard, who is the official in charge of transportation security in Kansas. "You've got communities shutting down. You've got governors shutting things down. And we still hadn't mandated masks. We still hadn't mandated eyewear. We still weren't changing personal protective equipment as often as we needed to," Brainard told NPR. "Every federal security director was forced to fend for him or herself."TSA says it follows guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and that screeners now wear masks and nitrile gloves. But the whistleblower says there are still gaps, including no procedure for handling travelers who appear to be sick.Brainard has been a whistleblower before, most recently in December when he told CNN he was worried about loosened security at airports. 1386

A day after President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden took part in dueling town hall events on Tuesday, both will hit the campaign trail Friday as they enter the 2020 presidential race's final stretch.Trump held several political events on Friday. He was at an event for seniors in Ft. Myers and held campaign rallies in Ocala, Florida and Macon, Georgia.Biden campaigned in Michigan on Friday, where he gave remarks on affordable healthcare and attended a drive-in voter mobilization event.Watch Biden's speech below:Both Trump and Biden held their own town hall events Thursday — the day in which both were originally scheduled to participate in the second presidential debate. After Trump contracted COVID-19 earlier this month, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced the second debate, a town hall, would take place virtually. Trump subsequently said he would not participate, and the debate was later canceled.Upon learning that Trump would not participate in a virtual debate, the Biden campaign reached an agreement with ABC News to hold its own town hall. The Trump campaign then struck a deal with NBC News on Wednesday to hold its own town hall event at the same time.In his town hall event, Trump often sparred with moderator Savannah Gutherie. At one point, Trump refused to denounce the QAnon conspiracy — whose followers have been linked to violent acts in the past.Trump repeatedly said he "didn't know" about the conspiracy theory, despite saying he "appreciates" the support its followers give him earlier this summer.During his event, Biden said he's "not a fan" but chose not to rule out "packing" the Supreme Court — the Constitutional but precedent-breaking act of adding more justices to the high court to balance the high court's political influence."I'm open to considering what happens from that point on (Judge Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation vote)," Biden said. 1933

A family was removed from a Southwest flight after their 3-year-old son with autism refused to wear a face mask, as required by the airline’s policy.Alyssa Sadler was traveling with her son and 1-year-old daughter from Midland to Houston, Texas. She was visiting her husband who works in Midland, according to media reports."It was just not a good morning," said Sadler. "He was screaming. He was throwing a fit. He was screaming no, no, no,” Sadler told KPRC in Houston. The plane had just left the gate when it reportedly turned back around when it became clear the young boy was not going to wear a mask. Sadler and her kids were then removed.“When you get kicked off your flight because your 3 year old autistic child won’t wear a mask... looks like I’m stuck here in midland,” Sadler posted on Facebook. “I’m literally disgusted by how my son was treated and how i was treated.”Sadler’s son doesn’t like his face being touched, and she carries a medical note explaining the condition.Southwest’s mask policy applies to passengers 2 and older, and the face covering must be worn the duration of the flight. The airline says there are no exceptions to this policy."What we have concluded is there shouldn't be any exceptions, because the exception could be someone who has the virus," Southwest CEO Gary Kelly told CNN.Sadler has no problem with masks, but believes there should be exceptions in certain situations.“I think there needs to be something in place for children or even adults with disabilities who can’t wear a mask. They should have some kind of exemption,” she told KPRC.The FAA has not issued a federal policy about masks on planes, and it is up to the individual airline to make a decision and enforce it. 1732
