SHANGHAI, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai General Motors (SGM) is contacting the owners of 2,065 Captive jeeps to recall the vehicles for repair due to risk of steering malfunction, the company said on Friday.The defected vehicles were manufactured by GM Daewoo Auto in the Republic of Korea between Sept. 18, 2007 and Dec. 31, 2008, said a spokesman with SGM.China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) released a bulletin on Friday, approving SGM's application for the recall.SGM had received no customer reports on the defect, the spokesman said.GAQSIQ has stopped the importation of GM Daewoo Auto's Captive jeeps, according to the bulletin.

PARIS, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Nuclear power should be developed with due regulations and in an orderly way thanks to its strict requirement for human resources, technology, security and quality, a Chinese official said Monday here at the international conference on civilian use of nuclear energy.Nuclear power, a clean, safe and economic energy, "plays an important role in energy conservation, environment protection and the strive to cope with climate change," Deputy Director of China' s National Energy Administration Wu Yin said, adding it has became "a major choice to develop economy and optimize energy structure" for many developing countries.Speaking to representatives from about 60 countries at the headquarters of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, Wu said that changing the mode of energy development, optimizing the energy mix and reducing carbon emission is now a shared aspiration of the world.According to him, China has accelerated the construction of nuclear power stations in recent years. Besides 11 nuclear power units that are already in operation, there are 21 many units under construction with a combined installed capacity of 23 gigawatts.Taking the nuclear security as the top priority, Wu presented some suggestions addressing the increasing global demand of nuclear access."The security of nuclear energy is beyond borders, we should strive to shape a culture on safe use of nuclear power. BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- China and Switzerland held their first study meeting on the feasibility of a Free Trade Area (FTA) in Beijing on Thursday, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said in a statement on its website.The meeting will continue until Friday, the department of international trade and economic affairs of the MOC told Xinhua.According to MOC statistics, bilateral trade between China and Switzerland topped 11.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.Although the two-way trade volume dropped slightly on account of the global economic downturn in 2009, the decline rate was small.Official figures also show that Switzerland is China's ninth largest European trade partner, while China is Switzerland's fourth largest global trade partner.
