CARLSBAD (CNS) - A train struck and killed a pedestrian this afternoon at a coastal northern San Diego County rail depot, authorities reported.The fatality at Carlsbad Village Train Station on State Street in Carlsbad occurred about 2:30 p.m., according to sheriff's officials.The victim, whose name, age and gender were not immediately available, died at the scene, Lt. Christopher Collier said.Northbound and southbound Coaster train runs were suspended in the area until further notice due to the death, North County Transit District officials advised. Businesses are one step closer to growing their own marijuana in San Diego. The deadline to enter the lottery for those permits ended Wednesday afternoon. Bradley Fisher really has his hopes up. "I'm getting it," said Fisher. "I'll be one of the 40 forsure."  He applied for two permits Wednesday so his client can start growing their own pot. He submitted his paperwork ahead of the lottery deadline, which gives him a better chance of getting that permit down the road. His client already has a warehouse set up for production. "They're able to grow it and bring it right to the dispensary," said Fisher. "They can make baked items as well, cookies, cakes the whole nine-yards, and it's all legit because they'll have permits for it."But it's not a simple process. "They're gonna put like a mezzanine in the building, in the warehouse, ovens, and stuff like that, tons of lights," said Fisher. "Electric is going to be off the hook; water is going up there. It's very costly, but then again its very beneficial."The city is now reviewing those applications to make sure they meet their demands. "To make the cultivation center you need to be 1,000 feet from any schools, any churches, daycares, parks."Applicants can still apply for appointments Thursday even if they weren't part of the lottery. CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (CNS) -- Three wildfires continued burning across open terrain on the grounds of Camp Pendleton Wednesday, sending plumes of smoke over northern San Diego County but posing no threats to military or civilian structures.The flames began spreading through training areas toward the center of the Marine Corps base on Monday.As of Wednesday afternoon, base officials said one of the fires, dubbed the Wood Fire, has burned 7,000 acres and is 20 percent contained.A second fire, called the India Fire, has burned 1,100 acres and is 20 percent contained.A third fire named the Range Fire is burning in the Range 706 Yankee impact area and has charred 500 acres, according to base officials.Base officials said the fires are expected to produce smoke through the remainder of the day, and the fires are not posing a threat on or off the base.Military firefighters have been aided by Cal Fire ground and airborne crews in their effort to corral the blazes.Officials have disclosed no cause for the fires. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A La Jolla man bought Carlsbad Fire Station 3 from the city and is making renovation plans so he can move in.Carlsbad firefighters worked out of the fire house on Catalina Drive for 40 years before moving to a newer, bigger station down the street in 2016."We kinda miss them because it was nice having them here, but I do think it's great that he's moving in," neighbor Diane Nogle said.Neighbors said the firefighters were a huge part of their cul-de-sac. Charles Colletti, the new owner, said they brought a cake to a neighboring girl's home on her birthday.Colletti said he bought the house for 3,000 to move closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Wednesday he walked through the home with a contractor, designing the future, "it needs a lot of work, the outside looks like a Brady Bunch house."Some of those proposed changes: new floors, new appliances, extending the kitchen, demolishing the fire chief's room downstairs, and moving the awkward bathroom in the middle of the floor plan.Colletti insisted he didn't want to take the fire station out of the house."I would love to keep some fire department, fire engine, stuff, memorabilia," Colletti said. "I was actually searching for a classic fire truck that I could potentially restore that I could keep here."Another selling point for him and a place that won't see much change is the garage.Colletti is planning on storing his classic car collection inside. Fourteen in all, including BMWs, Porsches, and Volkswagens.The only thing Colletti noticed that was missin: a fire pole. "We're considering installing one, just so when everybody asks me the question I can say yes, it does." Colletti said that's been one of his most asked questions. Colletti said he wants the station to continue serving the community, whether that's rescued pet adoptions with Second Chance, or bringing the firefighters back to the neighborhood."I'd love to reach out to them and invite them over to block parties because they're not that far away."Colletti will be moving in on July 15.
