SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- County health officials have identified the woman who may have come into contact with a bat that tested positive for rabies at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.According to the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, one person, and possible others, were exposed to rabies on September 6.The county says a bat was seen flying around a previously unidentified woman around 11:30 a.m. at the Mombasa Cooker at Nairobi Village.The bat was later collected and submitted to health officials for testing. It was later determined that the bat was infected with rabies.The agency says the bat wasn’t part of the park’s collection of animals."Any other visitors who may have come in direct contact with a bat at the location and time described below should contact County Health and Human Services," the agency said. 847

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Birch Aquarium welcomed two new residents to its waters this month, a first-ever for the aquarium.Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography bred and hatched two rare Weedy Seadragons for the first time, making the aquarium one of the few in the world to now house the fish.The fragile newborns, native to southern Australia, are under an inch long, but have already started eating tiny shrimp. We have spent over 25 years working with these animals and love that we have made the next steps to conserve this delicate species.”Weedy Seadragons perform an elaborate mating display, spinning snout-to-snout and moving up and down in a water column to transfer eggs from the female onto the male's tail, where they are fertilized and hatched 6 weeks later. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Condo and townhome sales increased more than 7 percent from April to May in San Diego County, while single-family home sales held steady, the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors reported Monday. Attached property sales increased 7.3 percent from 983 in April to 1,055 in May. Month-over-month sales of single-family homes increased by just 0.7 percent from 2,023 in April to 2,037 in May. Property sales, which plunged during the winter, have had steady increases since January. The price of single-family homes rose 1.2 percent from 2,200 in April to 0,000 in May. Attached property prices grew 3.3 percent from 0,000 in April to 4,000 in May. ``Sellers still have the upper hand in this market,'' said SDAR President Kevin Burke. ``However, buyers who take the time to research neighborhoods should find more homes for sale than they would have a year ago.'' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Callum Wagner rose up among the capacity crowd inside a University City ballroom Monday. He took the stage in front of hundreds, as they gave him a standing ovation."My mom keeps saying it's a big deal," said Callum, 12. "I don't like to talk about it."Callum's mom, Beverly Wagner, says she wouldn't be alive today if not for her son. That's why on Monday, Callum was one of three children honored as 2020 local 9-1-1 for kids heroes. It was July 1, 2019. Beverly had just got out of the jacuzzi in their Alpine home when she said she was feeling ill. Moments later, she was unconscious, suffering cardiac arrest. Callum was the oldest other person home at the time. He called 9-1-1, and Heartland Dispatcher Kim Gonzales picked up. "All I remember hearing him say was, his mom is dead, and at that point, it's go time," Gonzales said. For the next eight minutes waiting for first responders, Gonzalez instructed a desperate Callum how to deliver C.P.R. "She's not breathing," Callum told her on the phone call."It's OK, keep doing 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 3, 4," Gonzales responded. It was Callum's first time delivering C.P.R. He did it so well that Beverly made a full recovery, with no brain damage. "He did a great job because he broke my ribs, and that kept me alive," Beverly said. "They said that's a good sign of CPR."Beverly says Callum deserves all the accolades. During the 9-1-1 call, Callum told Gonzales that his mom was going to die. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City leaders welcomed a new North County park Wednesday, highlighted by a specially created area for the playground's most adventurous.Pacific Highlands Ranch Community Park sports five acres of turf field, two dog parks, playground and "discovery play" area, skate plaza, and San Diego's first free, public parkour area and bike pump track.The park also includes a 17,000-square-foot recreation center, featuring a gymnasium, multi-purpose building, and outdoor courtyard.
