SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 21-year-old man was hospitalized Monday after he was stabbed in the back and arm by a home intruder in the Oak Park neighborhood, police said.It happened around 11:55 p.m. Sunday at a home on Fauna Drive, located off College Grove Drive just northwest of state Route 94, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.The victim went downstairs to get some milk for his daughter and found a man standing in his kitchen, Buttle said.A struggle ensued and the victim was stabbed in the back and the right arm before his assailant fled, the officer said.The victim's wife drove him to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Buttle said.No detailed suspect descriptions were immediately available.Detectives with the San Diego Police Department's southeastern division were investigating the stabbing. 872

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ring doorbell video could provide the break in the strange disappearance of rent checks in North Park.A noise caused Ken Frederick to scramble from his home just past midnight Saturday, downstairs to his business, a property management company on 30th Street. He found junk mail - removed from his mailbox - coated with a sticky substance. He ended up near the front door and found a lone check that a tenant had dropped into the overnight mail slot. He checked his surveillance video, which showed a man in a hoodie appearing to jam some sort of stick-like object into the mail slot, before he removes it and takes off."We feel violated, like someone coming into your home," said Frederick.Frederick dug into his other Ring videos and found one from early last Wednesday morning. It appeared to be the same man, same hoodie, and same stick. This time, after he takes the stick out, he appears to put something in his pocket."If you know somebody's been in your business, it makes you feel insecure," said Frederick.Frederick is checking with his tenants to see if any rent checks put in the slot have disappeared. Another property management company nearby tells 10News they have had about ten rent checks vanish since June.As for the sticky substance, it's a familiar one. In the past year, 10News has reported on thieves 'fishing' checks with glue traps out of local postal collection boxes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 14-year-old teen has been arrested and charged with a hate crime after punching a Rabbi near a University City synagogue, police say.San Diego Police said Rabbi Yonatan Halevy, of the Shiviti Congregation, was walking near the synagogue located near 3200 Governor Drive on Oct. 10, when he was punched by the teenager. The teen reportedly yelled racial slurs during the attack and fled the location, police added. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 13-year-old San Ysidro girl's act of kindness has helped inspire others to give.Sahara Rodriguez read an article and how a young boy in Tijuana, Alexis, was trading his toys for food after his mother lost her job during the pandemic. Rodriguez wanted to help. She asked her mother to begin collecting food. They went to neighbors and friends to gather what they could, then traveled across the border to deliver the food to Alexis family."I’m very proud of her," said her mother, Dafne Noguez. "She’s a very shy girl and I’m very surprised that she’s been coming out of her shell and able to help a lot of people.” Noguez credits Sahara's involvement with the Girl Scouts for helping her daughter develop more confidence and leadership skills."It’s just so inspiring to see how she’s growing in that sense," said Alexandra Delgado of Girl Scouts San Diego, who has worked with Sahara over the years. "She did that step herself. Nobody asked her to do it. She just felt it was right.”Since that first donation, Sahara has continued collecting food donations to take to Tijuana. Alexis' family is now back on its feet, and Alexis is helping Sahara find other families more in need of the aid. "As a Girl Scout, it’s good to help people and we need to be caring about other people," Sahara said.In addition to collecting donations to deliver across the border, Sahara also works to help Rady Children's Hospital and is now working on a project to contribute to her community in San Ysidro. 1515

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Security is tight at San Diego's mosques following an arson attack at a mosque in Escondido early Sunday morning. Someone set fire to the Islamic Center of Escondido on West Sixth Avenue around 3 a.m, but a handful of worshippers was inside, and the group put out the fire before it caused any significant damage. When police arrived, they found a message in graffiti referencing the recent shootings at mosques in New Zealand. Monday afternoon, two San Diego Police Department patrol cars sat in the parking lot of the Islamic Center of San Diego. Directors say worshipers are nervous. "They accept the faith of what happened, others are very, you know, worried as well. It's a mixed mood," said Khelil Ouznali, vice chair of the board of directors. The center already has surveillance cameras all over the property and guards on duty, but now the directors are considering hiring armed guards. "We are looking into improving security, you know, we are looking into different options based on the feedback from our community," said Ouznali. On the campus of San Diego State University Monday, dozens of students rallied against hate. They marched through the student union chanting, "No hate at state, Muslims are here to stay, no hate at state, Muslims are here to stay!" Faduma Mohamed is a member of the Muslim Student Association. "It just goes to show there's a lot of hate against us, but although some people can attempt to destroy Muslims, Islam itself the religion, cannot be destroyed," said Mohamed.
