ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- An Escondido-based avocado grower is voluntarily recalling avocados sold in bulk due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Henry Avocado Corporation issued the recall Saturday due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during routine inspection of its packaging facility. So far, there are no reports of illness. The recalled products were packaged at Henry Avocado’s packaging facility and distributed to Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Customers can identify the recalled fruit by the “Bravocado” stickers. Henry Avocado organic products do not carry the “Bravocado” label on the sticker. Instead those products are labeled “organic” and include “California” on the sticker.All shipments from the facility are subject to the recall. According to the company, avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry Avocado are not part of the recall. The company said in a news release that it’s contacting all affected customers to make sure the products are removed from shelves. Anyone who purchased the recalled product are urged to discard or return the items for a full refund. Listeria monocytogenes can cause high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. 1303

ESCONDIDO, Cali. (KGTV) — A recently released video shows two burglars forcing their way into a hospice care nonprofit in Escondido.Jan Jones heads The Elizabeth Hospice. Its corporate offices sit on the third floor of an office building in the 500 block of La Terraza Blvd.  One day in July around 4 a.m., two people were recorded on surveillance video sneaking into the parking garage. Minutes later, they're at the main door of the nonprofit. One of the men tries the handle, but can't get in. Then they move onto another secure door, which requires a badge to open.Moments later, from a camera on the inside of the offices, the door is seen being yanked on over and over, before two men forced their way in.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodOne is wearing a hoodie. The other man is sporting a cap and a large backpack. They are seen going from room to room, raiding desks and shelves, and grabbing electronics. Then they split up and make their way out.  Among the items stolen are three laptops."No patient data, but they are used to provide the services we provide," said Jones.Also gone: A pricey camera used to make videos for critical training sessions."We care for people who are seriously ill, and we care for their families, and so anybody doing that would be heartless and should be brought to task. I think whoever did that has no soul," said Jones.The door the men damaged has been replaced by the landlord. The other damage is harder to undo. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - Three weeks after the deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas, the community is urging city and state leaders to make some changes.Three women were killed during the collapse. A tribute was held this week at the Encinitas City Council meeting for the victims. That’s where father and husband Pat Davis spoke out, saying healing will take time. “There will be a new normal in my life without these three gifted women,” says Davis. Davis lost his wife Julie, daughter Anne Clave, and wife’s sister in the bluff collapse. The family was out for a day at the beach on August 2 when the sand and large rocks came crashing down. “We do not have to accept tragedy if it is preventable.”Davis is urging the city to stabilize the bluff by adding concrete walls against the cliffs, sand replenishment or even cutting off some public access to the beach. Some California lawmakers are pushing for the government to pay for the stabilization after congress approved the Storm Damage Project in 2016. It has sat idle since being approved. “I do not want to see what happened to my family happen ever again.”The mayor and other city leaders toured the beaches with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thursday, but so far no decisions have been made.  1315

Emerging rapper and YouTube star Lil Peep has died at age 21, a representative confirmed to the Guardian. The rapper, whose real name is Gustav ?hr, died due to an apparent overdose, Tucson police Sgt. Pete Dugan told KGUN. The department responded to a call around 9 p.m. local time on Wednesday. Lil Peep grew up in Long Beach, New York. Lil Peep had released mixtapes and had a strong internet following. His debut album "Come Over When You're Sober (Part One)" was released in August. He had a unique style of emo-rap. Lil Peep had an imprint in the fashion world as well. He sat in the front row of the Balmain men's show at Paris Fashion Week before his album debuted.  728

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A 13-year-old boy suffered burns to his face after a science experiment at Capri Elementary School in Encinitas went awry.Priest Rivera, a 6th-grade student, said a teacher was attempting to show a group of students an experiment known as the “black snake” or “carbon snake” when it exploded in his face.The experiment involves mixing sugar and baking soda with a flammable liquid and lighting it on fire to create a snake-like reaction.Rivera said the teacher told them to stand in a semi-circle around her on the field as she lit the experiment on fire.“The teacher kept on pouring more rubbing alcohol onto the flame itself because the flame wasn’t building up,” said Rivera.That’s about all he remembers before waking up in an ambulance with a sharp pain all over his face.“My face was constantly burning and burning,” he said. “I still feel it right now.”He spent six days in the hospital and underwent four surgeries, according to his mom Gina Rivera.“It was just hell,” she said about the experience. “He kept saying, ‘mom am I going to go blind?’”Priest kept his eyesight but two weeks after the accident, still had bandages around his face to protect the burn areas.Gina said it’s still unclear how bad the injuries will end up being though she said the effects will be long-lasting. “It has halted his life. It’s changed his life,” she said.The outgoing superintendent of the Encinitas Union School District, Timothy Baird, told 10News they could not comment on any specifics because the incident involved a student. Though, he did say the district is investigating what happened.The Rivera family has hired a lawyer and plans to sue the district. 1692
