ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The on-going political crisis in Cote d’Ivoire should be and can be solved peacefully, Chinese Envoy and Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin told Xinhua here on Friday, ahead of the 16th African Union (AU) summit scheduled for Jan. 30-31.Liu was in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, the headquarters of the 53-member African bloc, to attend the summit as special envoy of the Chinese government.Cote d'Ivoire has been trapped in a political impasse since the landmark presidential run-off held on Nov. 28. Both incumbent Laurent Gbagbo and opposition leader Alassane Ouattara claimed victory and swore themselves in as president, and formed their respective government.Gbagbo was backed by the country's Constitutional Council, while Ouattara has the support of the electoral commission and the international community including the United Nations (UN), the AU, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the United States and France.China hopes various parties and stakeholders in Cote d’Ivoire can resolve their disputes through dialogues and consultations based on the interest of the country and its people, and maintain peace and stability, Liu said.A peaceful solution to the crisis is not only in the interests of the Ivorian people, but of the West African region as a whole, according to Liu.China appreciates the efforts made by the AU and ECOWAS to find a peaceful solution to the crisis, and will continue supporting Africa’s efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully, Liu said.According to the UN, more than 200 people have died from violence during the power struggle between Gbagbo and Ouattara.The 16th AU summit, to be held under the theme “Towards Great Unity and Integration Through Shared Values,” will gather heads of states and government from member states to discuss issues including Africa’s integration, and peace and security in the continent. BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- China has introduced new stimulus policies to boost the development of the software and integrated circuit (IC) industries.Software firms will continue to enjoy preferential value-added tax policies, according to a circular posted on the central government's website, www.gov.cn on Wednesday. The circular was dated Jan. 28.The new policies also granted tax cuts to manufacturers of integrated circuit. Enterprises of IC products whose product line is less than 0.8 micron (including 0.8 micron) wide will be exempted from corporate income taxes on the first and the second year after reaching profitability, according to the statement.Taxes will also be halved for such companies from the third to fifth year after reaching profitability.Makers of IC products that have a product line that is less than 0.25 micron wide or have invested more than 8 billion yuan (1.21 billion U.S. dollars) in production will pay reduced income taxes.For companies that have operated for more than 15 years, corporate income taxes will be exempted from the first year to the fifth after reaching profitability.Between the sixth and the tenth year, the firms will pay half of the taxes, the statement said.The government also encouraged consolidation in the software and IC industries and will provide financial support to technological research and development.

STOCKHOLM, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The exhibition of the Chinese Terra-cotta Army here was an enormous success, project organizer Sanne Houby-Nielsen said Sunday.About 320 objects, including terra-cotta warriors from the ancient Chinese Qin Dynasty and other terra-cotta figures from Han Dynasty, were exhibited at the Far Eastern Antiquities Museum during the event, which ended Sunday.Houby-Nielsen, who is director of the museum and also director-general of the country's National Museums of World Culture, told Xinhua in an exclusive interview that the total number of visitors was around 350,000, more than double the expected turnout.This was the highest number of visitors the museum has ever experienced in its history since it was established in the 1940s, said Houby-Nielsen, adding that the exhibition was originally scheduled to end on Jan. 16, but "a great pressure from the audiences" prompted the museum to extend it till Sunday."It is an exhibition which won the most audience for many years in Sweden. We feel particularly happy because it was a very good display of the story of the first emperor and the early Han Dynasty," she said."We felt such a huge interest that we have to prolong it.
