SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- People throughout San Diego County are searching for answers after hearing a mysterious boom Wednesday afternoon. Dozens of San Diego Residents in La Jolla and Del Mar took to Twitter after hearing the noise before 12:45 p.m. "Felt it in La Jolla / Windansea - even my dogs started barking," one Twitter user said, referring to the noise. RELATED: Human error caused loud banging noise in Chula Vista Friday night10News also received calls from people in Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach. Several people wondered whether or not an earthquake could be to blame, but according to the United States Geological Survey, the nearest earthquake was a 2.9 magnitude near Corona reported at 4:16 a.m. Wednesday. USGS' website states that, "reports of a bang are a clue that it's a sonic boom, but not an ironclad indicator since shallow earthquakes often sound like booms or bangs."10News has reached out to military officials to see whether or not military exercises may have caused the boom. The Marine Corps, however, did send a statement that reads, in part: "While we are aware of media reports of a possible sonic boom, no 3rd MAW units have reported one in San Diego air space. We will notify you if we receive any further information." 1258

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - National Guard troops have not been at the border for too long, but are already making their presence felt.Border Patrol officers last week arrested a 31-year-old woman on Interstate 15 they say was transporting 51 bundles of methamphetamine in her vehicle. The woman's vehicle was transported to a Border Patrol facility where agents continued searching the vehicle with the help of National Guardsman who have recently been deployed to the border.RELATED: Border Patrol officials discuss National Guard deployment to US-Mexico borderDuring the secondary search, agents initially did not locate any additional narcotics, officials said. Eventually, a National Guardsman found another 11 bundles of meth hidden deep within a door panel. In all, border agents discovered more than 68 pounds of meth valued at 6,000."Although the California National Guardsman have been on duty for only a couple of weeks, they have quickly fit in and are a great asset in assisting the Border Patrol to protect our communities," San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney Scott said. The woman has been turned over to Riverside County law enforcement and faces narcotics smuggling charges.RELATED: Thousands of kids a year migrate to the US alone. What happens next? This month, 24 National Guard troops were deployed to San Diego ports of entry in San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Tecate, and Calexico. The troops will not be armed or taking part in any immigration enforcement activities, according to CBP, instead, helping in support operations.Border officials expect another 106 additional troops at the ports of entry in the coming weeks. 1666

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - President Donald Trump said San Diego "needs a wall" while he toured eight border wall prototypes along the county's southern border Tuesday.During his visit, the president stopped intermittently during his inspection of the structures to discuss the wall and, at times, slam the state over its immigration policies."For the people that say no wall, if you didn't have walls over here you wouldn't even have a country," Trump said at the prototypes. "And, by the way, the state of California is begging us to build walls in certain areas. They don't tell you that."Trump went on to view more of the prototypes, before stopping once again to discuss the new structures."A part of San Diego needs a wall, they want a wall very desperately," Trump said. "They're willing to do anything to get it. I said 'nope, approve the whole wall, California.'"Trump said he favors a wall with see-through capabilities with steel and concrete. He added that Border Patrol had "done a fantastic job" in constructing the prototypes. The president was asked about comments from California Governor Jerry Brown, who has slammed Trump's border wall and called for other projects to receive funding."I think Gov. Brown has done a very poor job of running California ... The place is totally out of control," Trump criticized.Trump went on to slam Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who reportedly urged undocumented immigrants in the area to take precautions ahead of a series of immigration raids. Before heading back to MCAS Miramar to speak with service members, Trump stopped to deliver his final remarks on his tour and the wall."The border wall is truly our first line of defense. It'll save thousands and thousands of lives. Save taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars by reducing crime, drug flow, welfare fraud, and burdens on schools and hospitals," the president said.Trump called on Congress to fund the border wall but did not say whether he would veto a measure that doesn't include a punishment for so-called "sanctuary states." 2067

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for additional victims after arresting a man they say tried to drag a 17-year-old girl to his car in North Park in late May. According to police, the attempted kidnapping happened around 7:15 a.m. on the corner of 30th Street and El Cajon Boulevard May 31. Police say Thomas Luis Salas, 38, approached the 17-year-old at a bus stop before making casual conversation. He then extended his hand for a handshake and, when the juvenile shook his hand, police say Salas tried to grab her arm and pull her toward his light blue 2011 Ford Escape. The 17-year-old fought back and was able to get away. Investigators were able to track down and identify Salas as the suspect in the case. He was arrested on attempted kidnapping charges. His bail is set at 0,000. Police are asking additional victims to come forward. Salas is a Hispanic man five feet, nine inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. He was unshaven with a goatee. Police say Salas’ eyes have a “sleepy” appearance. He also has a large tattoo on his right arm of a cartoon face inside a “sunburst” or “Flame” design. According to police, Salas may have approached other juvenile women with his phone out attempting to engage in conversation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Deanna Mora at 619-516-3066 or Detective Sergeant Don Williams at 619-516-3006. 1374
