(KGTV) – Police are investigating the death of a woman whose nude body was found in the middle of a Chula Vista street early Thursday morning.At around 12:30 a.m., a person called 911 to report a naked woman lying face down in the middle of the 200 block of Shasta Street, near Second Avenue.Responding police officers checked the woman and found she was not breathing and had no pulse.Despite CPR attempts, the woman -- described as Hispanic, in her 20s, and a Chula Vista resident -- was declared dead at the scene.Police told ABC 10News there was no immediate indication the woman was struck by a vehicle. On Friday, police identified the victim as 33-year-old Laura Rodriguez.Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said, "It's very suspicious at this time. The manner of death is unknown. At this time, we don't know why this person was here and why they were left here in the roadway."Officers are questioning neighborhood residents as part of their investigation."It's a bit of a shock. This is a very quiet neighborhood ... About 20 minutes before she was found, I heard a vehicle revving up its engine and going around the corner," said neighbor Roger Murray.The Chula Vista Police Department is trying to locate witnesses or anyone with information regarding Rodriguez's death. (KGTV) — Homeowners in east Chula Vista are hoping a meeting with police and city leaders will address a number of crime concerns in the area.The meeting started with an idea by Josh Roberts. Roberts lives in the community and was tired of seeing people complaining and reporting crime on Facebook instead of directly to the police department. According to Crimemapping, there were 44 crimes reported from July 5 to August 1 in a two mile radius in the 91915 zip code. The crimes range from burglaries to vehicle thefts to assault. REPORT: Chula Vista's rapid growth poses major challenges to public safety, trafficHowever, last December Wallet Hub ranked Chula Vista the safest city in the county and the third safest in the state. CVPD says community safety is their highest priority and plans to address any concerns at the meeting. Chula Vista Police and city councilman Steve Padilla have both confirmed their attendance. (KGTV) -- New information from the county shows that an anonymous tip led to the inspection and eventual closure of Filippi's.According to the county, the property manager of the complex requested that the Department of Health's Vector Control Program provide a consultation on rodent activity at the complex. After completing the inspection of the building's exterior, inspectors reportedly found a small amount of rodent droppings near the dumpster areas behind the complex. RELATED: Filippi's pizza restaurant in Eastlake Chula Vista closes for good after vermin infestation reportIn February of 2018, the county says inspectors received an anonymous complaint regarding rodents inside Filippi's. The restaurant received a primary inspection report on April 18 showing that an inspector found 20 dried rodent droppings in a back oven and rodent nests in the panels of two ovens. The inspector also reportedly found rodent droppings in utensil storage areas, beneath a stove and in dry storage areas. The report shows that there were several holes in an exterior wall and a door leading to the outdoor trash area. A second inspection was conducted a second day which found six dried mouse droppings and two fresh rat droppings in a dry storage area. Dried urine was also found on plastic wrapper of cardboard pizza boxes and gnaw marks through plastic into boxes, according to the report.  1474

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A Tijuana police officer who allegedly took part in a plot to steal more than million from a Chula Vista home, which he and other defendants believed was a stash house containing drug money, was ordered Monday to stand trial on two conspiracy charges.Jesus Estrada Torres, 35, is accused of planning with five other men to rob the home in late January, after an undercover FBI agent told them a shipment of money would be delivered to the residence, according to testimony at the defendant's preliminary hearing.A fellow officer, Marco Quijas-Castillo, 27, pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to commit robbery and faces two years in state prison. Four others are also facing various charges in connection with the attempted theft.RELATED: 2 Tijuana police officers among group charged in Chula Vista home burglaryTestimony at Torres' preliminary hearing indicated the defendants were told two unarmed individuals would be inside the three-bedroom home, which was actually being rented by the FBI for the operation.The criminal complaint alleges Castillo and Torres crossed into the United States from Mexico with Ignacio Martinez-Cruz, 33, and met up in Chula Vista with fellow defendants Nicholas Jeremiah Shaw, 25, Mario Eugene Hall, 35, and Tomas Emmanuel Ramirez, 29, who traveled to Chula Vista from San Bernardino County.Castillo and Torres allegedly "provided counter-surveillance" at a Kohl's store in Chula Vista, while the other four men met with the undercover agent, according to the complaint.Castillo and Torres also provided surveillance at the Chula Vista residence while Shaw walked up to the house, and "entered a code into a lockbox containing a key to enter the house," the complaint alleges.The men had allegedly planned to tie up the two people believed to be inside the home, then take the money, but were arrested by law enforcement upon approaching the home, according to testimony.The defendants are due back in court June 30 for a readiness conference. 2022
